Enhance the reliability of your vehicle by replacing the weak plastic radiator plug or differential fill plugs with this solid-brass version. This plug is direct, drop-in replacement for the weak plastic radiator plugs fitted to older Land Rovers, and also the differential fill plugs on the Disco2 and P38 Range Rover.

Factory Plastic Plug

For some inexplicable reason, Land Rover switched from a brass radiator plug (which was standard on the older Range Rover Classics) to a plastic plug. The plastic radiator plug is not satisfactory. The plastic threads are weak and easy to cross-thread. The plastic material gets very hot sitting on the radiator and eventually cracks. The plastic plug is also hollow and it is common for the head to shear off and leave the threaded shank inside the radiator. The plastic plug is a known weak point and a liability on any vehicle.

Expeditionware Brass Plug

Replace the factory plastic piece with the Expeditionware Brass Plug. The Brass Plug suffers from none of the plastic factory plug's weaknesses and also has an elegant appearance when mounted to your vehicle. The shiny brass forms a patina with exposure to the elements and gives an elegant appearance as well as much greater strength and reliability.

The Brass Plug features the same threads as the plastic factory plug and the same O-ring. The outer flange of the of Plug's head encapsulates the O-ring and prevents the O-ring from "squirting out" when the Brass Plug is tightened. Replacing the factory plastic plug is as simple as unthreading it from the radiator and threading in the Brass Plug.

This Plug Must Not Be Removed When Engine Is Hot

When installing your Brass Plug onto your radiator or when servicing your radiator, never do so when the radiator is hot. There is pressure inside a hot radiator and removing the plug could spray scalding hot coolant everywhere. The result could be very severe burns and possible loss of vision. This would not be good.

Factory Plastic Plug

Land Rover uses the exact same plastic radiator plug as a fill plug on the Disco2 and P38 front and rear differentials. Why Land Rover chose to fit plastic differential fill plugs is another mystery.

These factory plastic fill plugs are just as easily replaced with the Brass Plug. The result is one less weak spot on your vehicle. The Brass Plug is shiny when new but will discolor with age as a patina forms on the brass from exposure to the elements.

Maxi-Drive Engineering Brass Plug

We have sold other brass plugs in the past. The first brass plug we sold was from Maxi-Drive Engineering and featured two flats. This brass plug had to be tightened using an adjustable wrench or KNIPEX Plier Wrench.

The second brass plug we sold was also from Maxi-Drive Engineering and had to be tightened with a 1/4" ALLEN wrench.

Expeditionware Brass Plug

The Expeditionware Brass Plug features a hex head and accepts a simple 13/16" socket. Alternative, an adjustable wrench or KNIPEX Plier Wrench may be to used to tighten and loosen it. While the other two versions of the brass plug were excellent, we like this third version the best because it is easier to tighten and loosen, and it has more of a factory appearance than the other two brass plugs did.
