The Safety Tow Hook is a low-profile recovery are very suitable for mounting in places where traditional recovery points like our Shackle Mounting Brackets will not fit. The Safety Tow Hook features a 10,000 lb. load rating.
The Safety Tow Hook's 10,000 lb. load rating comes from its drop-forged construction. The hook is very strong.
A key feature of the Safety Tow Hook is its safety clasp. When the Safety Tow Hook is properly mounted with the safety clasp in place, the safety clasp pushes against the tip of the hook and prevents your Recovery Straps from falling off the Safety Tow Hook if the strap should slacken for whatever reason during a recovery. The Safety Clasp is also very quick to use, as nothing need be threaded or unthreaded to attach a recovery strap properly. You may have seen hooks similar to these but without the safety clasp. Avoid these hooks, as they are not safe to use.
In addition to coming standard with a safety clasp, the Safety Tow Hook comes standard with proper mounting hardware.
The mounting bolts feature a black oxide finish and have a Grade 5 rating.
The mounting nuts are the Nyloc type and have a Grade 8 rating.
Most of the latest front bumpers from companies like ARB and TJM are airbag-compatible for product liability reasons. Bumpers like the TJM T15 Winch Bar shown above cannot properly accept recovery points mounted to the blade. Doing so could compromise the crush cans on this bumper. It is for these types of applications that the Safety Tow Hooks are ideal because the Safety Tow Hooks are so small. Look closely at this Discovery Series II. There are two Safety Tow Hooks to this T15's winch tray.
The Safety Tow Hooks are very solidly mounted to the TJM Winch Tray, which in turn is solidly mounted to the vehicle's frame.
Here is a close-up of the same vehicle. The Safety Tow Hooks are much more visible in this photo.
The Safety Tow Hooks protrude very slightly from the bottom of the T15 Winch Bar and have a very factory appearance on this Winch Bar.
Yet the Safety Tow Hooks will not protrude so much that they will be a hindrance on the trail.
An offroad vehicle needs a rear recovery point as well as a front one.
This 5/8" Hitch Pin will fit Class 3, 4, and 5 receiver hitches and is ideal for the Superwinch Receiver Shackle Bracket to your Class 3 receiver hitch.
The Hitch Pin comes complete with a R-Clip for securing the Hitch Pin into the receiver hitch. We much prefer the R-Clip design to locking or threaded designs, which are much more difficult to remove.
One can even use the Hitch Pin in lieu of fitting a separate Receiver Shackle Bracket, simply by inserting the Hitch Pin through the eyelet on the recovery strap. This method is not ideal because the hollow receiver hitch is more vulnerable to damage from a hard impact and the recovery strap or rope is much more likely to abrade or cut using this method. However, many very knowledgeable fourwheelers such as Bill Burke employ this method on occasion and we cannot say that it is inherently dangerous. However, we do recommend that if you use this method, be sure to employ a recovery strap such as our Expeditionware Recovery Straps, which feature cordura reinforcements. Having the R-clip on the Hitch Pin at least gives on the option to employ this method if your receiver hitch or shackle mount should become damaged on the trail and you need to perform a recovery.
While the method described above is workable, we opine that the better method is to fit a Receiver Shackle Bracket to the receiver hitch.
With a Receiver Shackle Bracket mounted and affixed with the 5/8" Hitch Pin, the recovery strap is not exposed to cutting and abrasion from rubbing hard against the edges of the receiver hitch, and the hollow receiver hitch is better protected against impact damage.
Turn your Hi-Lift Jack into an effective hand winch with this choker chain. Unlike recovery straps, chains do not stretch under load and thus are particularly suited for hand winching use with the Hi-Lift Jack. This 3/8" chain is 20' long and features grab hooks at both ends. The entire chain and its hardware are yellow zinc plated for corrosion resistance.
This grab hook permits the user to shorten the working length of the chain.
The slot in the choker chain engages the chain's links and grabs firmly.
The clevis grab hook is secured to the chain with a clevis pin. The clevis pin is secured with a removable cotter pin. If you should ever need to remove the grab hook in the field, you can do so without tools.
The 3/8" size of this chain is compatible with the chain slot in the JackMate.
In fact, the JackMate's chain slot is sized specifically for the 3/8" chain size. This slot enables you to length or shorten the chain more easily. Even if your clevis grab hook is broken or lots, you can can still rig your chain using the JackMate's chain slot.
The 3/8" size of this chain also enables the user to thread the chain through a standard 3/4" Bow Shackle without having to unthread the shackle. Both the chain and its clevis grab hooks will thread through the aperture.
