Diamond Antenna DL30A Compact Dummy Load (DL30A) $45 Never hit the transmit button on your transceiver without a 50-ohm load connected to the transceiver's output. The Diamond Antenna NR770HB Dualband VHF/UHF Mobile Antenna is resonant on the 2-meter and 70-centimeter amateur bands.
The NR770HB is our favorite 2m/440 antenna because it represents to us the best compromise of weight, length, color, gain, and mounting options.
The NR770HB is ideal for users of VHF/UHF dualband transceivers like these Icom IC-208H that have been installed in Discoveries.
The NR770HB is a 1/2-wavelength design providing 3.0 dB of gain on 2 meters, and a 2 x 5/8-wavelength design providing 5.5 dB gain on 70 centimeters. Power rating is 200/200 watts, four times the typical power output of most VHF/UHF mobile units.
The NR770HB's tip is covered for maximum gain and to protect the tip from impacts.
The NR770HB is 39" tall and weighs 200 grams, so it will withstand the punishment of sustained off-highway use. Because of the 1/2-wavelength design, grounding the NR770HB is not required. For all of these reasons, the NR770HB is very suited for use with the K9000 Motorized Antenna Mount, which is our favored method of mounting a VHF/UHF mobile antenna on our vehicles because of the high likelihood of breaking the antenna on the trail from contact with overhead objects and for convenience around town.
If you do not have a K9000 Motorized Mount, the NR770HB features fold-over ability for entry into areas with low overhead clearance like parking garages.
To fold the NR770HB, simply pull up on the mast and tip over the antenna.

The Diamond Antenna HV7A Multiband HF/VHF/UHF Mobile Antenna is an all-in-one type of antenna that is resonant on the 10-meter, 6-meter, 2-meter, and 70-centimeter amateur bands.
If desired, the HV7A can be resonant on two different HF bands through the fitment of one four optional HF loading coils: HVC7 (40 meters), HVC14 (20 meters), HVC18 (17 meters), or HVC21 (15 meters).
In the photo above, the optional HVC7 40-Meter Monoband Loading Coil has been fitted to the top of the HV7A and the HVC28 10-Meter Monoband Loading Coil that comes standard with the HV7A has been moved to the side. In this configuration, the HV7A is resonant on five different bands: the 40-meter and 10-meter HF bands, 6-meter and 2-meter VHF bands, and 70-centimeter UHF band.

The HV7A is a 1/4-wavelength design providing 2.15 dB of gain on the 6 meters, a 5/8-wavelength design providing 2.15 dB of gain on 2 meters, and a 2 x 5/8 wavelength design providing 5.5 dB gain on 70 centimeters. Power rating is 120 watts on HF and 200 watts on VHF/UHF, well beyond the power output of the vast majority of mobile HF units. Grounding the HV7A is required for use on the HF and 6-meter bands because of the 1/4-wavelength design on those frequencies.
The HV7A must be tuned for low SWR on the HF and 6 meters. To facilitate tuning, Diamond Antenna includes who lengths of wire, which may be cut for testing before cutting the HV7A's stingers.
The side-mounted stinger is for operation on 6 meters.

Because of the HV7A's length and weight, the fold-over hinge is locked in place by a threaded collar.

Many of today's HF/VHF/UHF mobile transceivers like this Icom IC-706MkIIG feature separate HF and VHF/UHF outputs on the back of the transceiver. If, for example, a Technician class amateur owned a 706MkIIG, he would not be permitted to transmit on the HF bands and the HF output of his transceiver might remain unused. However, simply scrolling bands on the radio might damage it without 50 ohms of impedance mated to the HF/50 output. Fitting a DL30 Compact Dummy Load to the HF/50 output is cheap insurance against damage to this very expensive transceiver.

The K9000LRM includes all of the components necessary to mount the unit onto a luggage rack or roof rack. The K9000LRM is powered through a 12v DC cigarette plug and the power wires extend a full 20' for placement anywhere on your vehicle. On our own vehicles, we prefer to hardwire the K9000 instead of using the 12v cigarette plug.
If your roof rack has flooring, you may dispense with the luggage rack mounting pieces entirely and mount the K9000 body directly onto the flooring for the lowest possible profile. This is our preferred method of mounting the K9000.
Mounted in this fashion, the K9000 gives a very clean and finished installation.
The K9000 is powered by a small electric motor.
The motor turns a worm drive, which in turn turns several different gear reductions to lower the antenna.
When the gears reach a certain point, sensors are tripped, the motor loses continuity,
and the antenna rests in the vertical position.
To lower the antenna, just push the "down" button and the K9000 will lower the antenna. The same type of sensors within the K9000 stop the swing arc at the low point.
Swing arc may be adjusted from as little as 45 to 90 degrees.
Why is being able to lower the antenna an advantage? The antenna is the weakest yet most important portion of the mobile radio system. If your antenna fails, you cannot transmit without damaging your transceiver. Overhanging branches and ceilings will snag an antenna and break it. When entering low-clearance areas, it is advisable to lower the antenna to prevent damaging it.
If you don't lower your antenna in low-clearance areas and employ a fixed antenna mount, you stand a good chance of suffering antenna carnage on the trail. An antenna in this condition is not usable for transmitting, as the characteristic impedance will have been altered substantially and the antenna will lose resonance.
In addition to lowering the antenna, the K9000 also employs two different safety devices to lessen the likelihood of antenna breakage. The first safety device is internal spring loading. In the photo above, the antenna is set in the vertical position but is being pushed rearward. The internal spring that otherwise holds the antenna in the vertical position gives when there is rearward pressure on the antenna.
Even though set to the vertical position, the K9000 will "give" when the antenna hits an overhead object. When the antenna is pushed beyond the swing limits of the spring, the second safety device will come into play. An external spring-loaded and splined dog clutch lets the K9000LRM release in a collision and further lessens the likelihood of antenna breakage if the antenna catches on an overhead object.
The clutch system really works. In the photo above, the clutches have given when John's two antennas hit overhead objects. The antennas were saved against breakage.
An alternative to the K9000 Motorized Mount is the the Diamond Antenna K540 Mobile Mobile Antenna Mount.
The K540 is adjustable antenna mount designed for fitment to mirror arms and luggage racks from 1/2" to 1" in diameter. The K540 is ideal for mounting onto Safety Devices Roof Racks that have not been fitted with flooring, as the Safety Devices Roof Racks utilize 1" diameter tubing.
In this photo, the K540 has been installed onto one of our shop carts, which also use 1" diameter tubing.
The K540 mounts to the 1" tube with four screws. The K540 is very secure once the four screws are tightened.
The K540 accepts antennas up to 45" in height and up to 1 lb. in weight. Recommend antennas include the Diamond Antenna NR770HB Dualband and CR320A Triband VHF/UHF Mobile Antennas.
The K540 is adjustable in two different planes. The first adjustment mechanism permits the antenna to be tilted radially relative to the mounting bar. Adjusting the antenna in this plane is very simple.
A splined tension screw keeps the antenna positioned in the lateral plane.
Just loosen the tension screw with an allen wrench. Tighten the tension screw after achieving the desired angle.
Cover the tension screw with the supplied weather cap to keep out the elements.
The second adjustment mechanism permits the antenna to be tilted lengthwise relative to the mounting bar. Swing arc in this plane is 180 degrees.
To move the antenna in this lengthwise plane, simply loosen the wing nut on the front of the mount. Diamond Antenna employs a wing nut for this adjustment plane so that the user may lower the antenna easily before entering low-clearance areas.
Taken together, the two adjustment planes give the K540 unmatched versatility for mounting a VHF/UHF antenna to the Safety Devices Roof Racks. One way to mount the K540 to the Highlander Roof Rack is shown above. This Highlander is covered with flooring, so the amateur installed the K540 to the center vertical bar. When the wing nut is loosened, the antenna may be swung down to clear overhead objects.
This user has no flooring and mounted his K540 to the center horizontal bar of a Highlander Rack. The spare tire blocks swinging down the antenna, but the antenna could otherwise be swung down if required by loosening the K540's wing nut.
This user mounted his K540 very low on the front of the Highlander Rack, between two Hella 4000 Euro Beams. When mounted in this fashion, the K540 will not really permit the antenna to be swung down. Fortunately, this amateur is using the NR770HB Dualband VHF/UHF Mobile Antenna, which has its own fold-over feature right above the lower loading coil. When folded over, this NR770HB sits barely above the rack.
The Diamond Antenna C213 Coaxial Cable Assembly fits almost every Diamond Antenna K-Series Mobile Antenna Mount, including the K9000 and K540 mobile mounts. This is our favorite method to connect a mobile transceiver to a roof-mounted mobile antenna.
The C213 is composed of 13.5' of RG316 teflon coaxial cable. RG316 coaxial cable is only 1/8" in diameter, very flexible, and very easy to route. Power rating is 350 watts, which is more than plenty for unamplified mobile transceivers.
The antenna connector type is a gold-plated UHF/SO-239 for mating with the Diamond Antenna Mobile Antenna Mounts and Diamond Antenna Mobile Antennas.
A weather cap is provided to protect the UHF/SO-239 connector from the elements when an antenna is not fitted.
The UHF/SO-239 connector mates with almost all Diamond K-Series Mobile Antenna Mounts, including the K540 and K9000.
The C213 terminates in a gold-plated Mini UHF connector,
and comes with a UHF/PL-259 adapter for fitment to your mobile transceiver.
The Diamond Antenna C101 Coaxial Cable Assembly is identical to the C213 in every way except for length. The C101 is 6.5' long while the C213 is 13' long. Use the C101 instead of the C213 for applications not requiring the C213's reach.
The Diamond Antenna C110 Coaxial Cable Extension is designed to extend the reach of the Diamond Antenna C213 or C101 Coaxial Cable Assemblies. Power rating is 350 watts.
The C110 is composed of 10' of RG8X coaxial cable,
and is terminated on both ends with gold-plated Mini UHF connectors.
The male Mini UHF connector mates with the female Mini UHF connector on the C213 and C101 Coaxial Cable Assemblies.
The Diamond Antenna C211 Coaxial Cable Assembly is a kit composed of the Diamond Antenna C101 Coaxial Cable Assembly and C110 Coaxial Cable Extension.
The combined length of both kits is 16.5' long. Power rating is 350 watts.
The Diamond Antenna 31005 Replacement Weather Cap protects the UHF/SO-239 connector from corrosion and the elements when the antenna is not mounted.
If you have lost your weather cap and do not have your antenna mounted at all times, be sure to cover the UHF/SO-239 connector to maintain its conductivity and peak performance. This UHF/SO-239 connector, though gold plated, is exposed to the elements and will lose conductivity due to corrosion.
Keep your connectors covered.
The Diamond Antenna MX-62M Duplexer combines separate HF/50 and VHF/UHF outputs into a single coaxial connection for combining the separate HF/50 and VHF/UHF outputs from a single transceiver or for combining the outputs from two different transceivers into one for use with a single antenna.
Many multiband antennas like the Diamond Antenna HV7A Multiband HF/VHF/UHF Mobile Antenna are capable of resonance on the HF, VHF, and UHF amateur bands. Many people prefer to run a single antenna on their vehicles instead of multiple monoband antennas. For these applications, the MX-62M Duplexer comes into its own.
The HV7A is ideal for users of the new generation of HF/VHF/UHF transceivers like Icom IC-706MkIIG, Yaesu FT100, and Yaesu 8900, as well for one-antenna use with separate HF and VHF/UHF transceivers. For radios with separate HF and VHF/UHF outputs like the IC-706MkIIG, the MX-62M Duplexer combines 706's separate HF/50 and VHF/UHF outputs into a single coaxial connection that runs to the HV7A's input.
The MX-62's connector type is a gold-plated UHF/PL-259 on the inputs and gold-plated UHF/SO-239 on the output. Insertion loss is less than 0.2 dB. Power rating is 650 watts.
For applications where two transceivers share a single antenna or a single transceiver is transmitting on two antennas, the Diamond Antenna CX210A Wideband Coaxial Cable Switch is ideal.
The CX210A is a two-position coaxial cable switch. The CX210A is rated DC to 1000 MHz and can handle 1500 watts on HF, 1000 watts on VHF, and 250 watts on UHF. Insertion loss is less than 0.05 dB up to 500MHz and less than 0.1 dB from 500 MHz to 1000 MHz.
The CX210A utilizes gold-plated UHF/SO-239 connectors for the input and both outputs. There are two removable screws on the bottom of the switch that may be used for mounting.
The Diamond Antenna RSA3474 SMA/UHF Adapter converts an SMA female to UHF/PL-259 for mounting a handheld transceiver antenna to a mobile antenna mount.
Why would you want to mount a handheld transceiver antenna onto a mobile antenna mount? If you have ever suffered a broken antenna and don't carry a spare, you will know why. An antenna in this condition is not usable, as its characteristic impedance will have been altered substantially and the antenna will lose resonance. Transmitting with a non-resonant antenna will damage the transceiver, so this entire mobile unit is rendered useless because of the broken antenna.
If you carry a spare mobile antenna, that is great. However, most people do not. The RSA3474 permits the amateur to mount his handheld transceiver antenna to his mobile antenna mount to create the required 50 ohms of impedance for the mobile transceiver.
When transmitting through your mobile transceiver through a handheld transceiver antenna, be careful to set your mobile transceiver for low power or you will smoke your antenna. The Diamond Antenna SRH320A, for example, has a power rating of 10 watts. If you transmit at 50 watts with this antenna, the result will be unpretty.
The RSA3474 is very small, so there's no reason not to carry one along with your other gear.
The Diamond Antenna C110SMA Coaxial Cable Extension is designed for mating a handheld transceiver with a mobile antenna for HT-Mobile applications.
The C110SMA is composed of 10' of RG316 teflon coaxial cable. RG316 coaxial cable is only 1/8" in diameter, very flexible, and very easy to route.
The coaxial cable connection is a gold-plated Mini UHF for connection to the Diamond Antenna C213 or C101 Coaxial Cable Assemblies.
The C110SMA terminates in a gold-plated SMA connector,
for connection to most handheld transceivers.
This Yaesu VX-7R VHF/UHF Handheld Transceiver and Diamond Antenna C110SMA are ready to be connected to an existing mobile antenna like the Diamond NR770HB and a coaxial cable like the Diamond C213.
Once connected, the VX-7R will benefit greatly from the NR770HB's high gain. The VX-7R's range and effective transmitting power will be increased by several times.
The Diamond Antenna SRH320A Triband VHF/UHF Handheld Transceiver Antenna is resonant on the 2-meter, 1.25-meter, and 70-centimeter amateur bands and is also optimized for wideband receive across the 120, 150, 300, 450, and 900 MHz bands.
The SRH320A is a 1/4-wavelength design on 2 meters and 1.25 meters, and a 1/2-wavelength design providing 4 dBi of gain on 70 centimeters. The SRH320A is 14" tall and weighs 30 grams. Power rating is 10 watts.
The SRH320A's connector type is a gold-plated SMA.
SMA is becoming the standard connector type on the latest-generation handheld transceivers. SMA now easily outnumbers the older BNC connector. All of our handheld transceiver antennas, including the SRH320A, use SMA connectors.
The SRH320A is ideal for the Kenwood TH-F6A VHF/UHF Handheld Transceiver, as the TH-F6A is capable of transmission on the 144, 220, and 440 MHz bands, the exact bands on which the SRH320A is resonant. The TH-F6A is also capable of wideband receive from 100 kHz to 1.3 GHz, so the SRH320A's wideband receive ability is utilized.
However, the SRH320A is so much more than a TH-F6A antenna. Rather, it is a superb all-around antenna for the plethora of new-generation 2m/70cm handheld transceivers with wideband receive capabilities.
The SRH320A is our favored HT antenna, and we have tried many. Performance exceeds that of much larger antennas, for both receive and transmit. Like the NR770HB mobile antenna (which is our favorite VHF/UHF mobile antenna), the SRH320A is our favorite HT antenna.
The Diamond Antenna SRH999 Quadband VHF/UHF Handheld Transceiver Antenna is resonant on the 6-meter, 2-meter, 70-centimeter, and 23-centimeter amateur bands, and is also optimized for wideband receive across the 150, 300, 450, and 900 MHz bands.
The SRH999 is a 1/4-wavelength design on 6 meters and 2 meters, a 1/2-wavelength design providing 4 dBi of gain on 70 centimeters, and a 5/8-wavelength design providing 4 dBi of gain on 23 centimeters.
The SRH999 is a favorite among Icom IC-T81A and IC-T90A users. The IC-T90A VHF/UHF Handheld Transceiver, for example, is capable of transmitting on the 6-meter, 2-meter, and 70-centimeter amateur bands, and is capable of wideband receive from less than 495 kHz to 999.990 MHz. The SRH999 is very compatible with the IC-T90A's abilities.
The SRH999 is 21" tall and weighs 50 grams. Power rating is 10 watts.
The SRH999 features a black finish. Connector type is a gold-plated SMA.
