A "taste" of Baja

Not all adventures need to include "roughing it"...

Stephanie has just finished wrapping the Fall issue of Overland Journal, so we are off to Baja for a week with a few other EarthRoamer owners and Graham and Connie (with the uber-cool Defender).

We are "easing" into the "dangers" of Mexico...

I have always wanted to spend some time in Baja's wine region, taste some wines and find a winery that would accommodate a few expedition trucks. Adobe Guadeloupe is perfecto!

We leave for Mike's Sky Rancho and a section of the 500 course in the morning.

That winery really is a nice place to stay. Some friends of mine got married there several years ago and a bunch of us took it over for the weekend. Easy to get to and the owners were really friendly.

I was certainly missing it!

Aaron. You and I, and a few others are going to do this route on the motos next year. It was a perfect moto route. I also have a few extensions in mind to add to the adventure. It can be done in a 4-day weekend.

It must be done

Mike's Sky Rancho

The road into Mike's Sky is a classic Baja route. The road beyond the ranch is more of a test, and allows access via dirt to the forests of the San Pedro Martir.

if you ever want to explore southern baja (south of guerrero negro) let me know I have over 15 years experience down there. Spent my winters down there for 4 years guiding, surfing, wheeling, exploring, fishing, living on the beaches, eating like a king every day, all via rovers. its the real baja down there. so many great places to chekc out and explore!!!!

I definitely want to pick your brain, Ed!! I had planned to take a week-long camping/surfing trip to areas between San Carlos and Guerrero Negro this May, but work is putting the brakes on that idea. Thinking about going in the fall instead (to avoid peak summer temps).
