Aaron, Ho, and I rode to San Pedro this morning to check out the USS Iowa:


The Iowa is very impressive in person. I had seen 5" guns before in San Diego, but this was the first time I had seen 16" in person. They're huge. Add the armor and speed of these ships, and you can see why they were the Death Stars of their day. Perhaps that description doesn't apply to the Iowa class, Bismarck, and Yamato, but it certainly applied to the battleships that existed before submarines and aircraft.
