Seriously?

MKIII is specific. Simply saying Range Rover is not... P38, Range Rover Classic, Range Rover Sport and now the Evoque.

Reminds me of a typical d-web thread, so I suppose the circle is complete.

MKIII still requires the year to be specific. 2008 RR, 1997 RR, 1992 RR.
A Range Rover is simply a Range Rover, there is nothing else. A RR Sport is different a RR Evoque is different.

As for the " ugliness" of the LR4 well to each his own. I see the LR4 simply as the modern extension of the Discovery. Just as the MKIII is the modern vision of the original RR.
I suppose the Q7 is the newest vision of an Audi station wagon.

Oh and not drunk, just don't agree.

What the fuck are you talking about? MKIII was introduced in 2003-Present. We're talking about a MKIII... A Range Rover of 2003-Present vintage.

That's a good description.

The Classic, P38, and MkIII are very different vehicles and the MkIII shares nothing mechanically or even in it's basic design with the other 2 trucks (Unibody, independent suspension, BMW/Jag engine, etc.). I sometimes use RR3 instead of MkIII.

No shit Sherlock! But to be specific even within the MKIII range you must specify the year. A 2003 RR and a 2010 or 2012 are very different trucks. So, if you state you are looking for a MKIII to buy for your kid hauler what do you mean? 2003, 2006,???. Why not just say I want a 2008 Range Rover for example?
To use the term MKIII generically, fine but it does not narrow the field specifically.
And I do have a clue, I've been driving Land Rovers for over 17 years and know the difference between a P38 and MKIII. I also know they are both just Range Rovers.

Oh boy.

Yes, that's great that you've been driving rovers for 17 years. I'm sure you're an expert, just ask you.

You weren't a part of the conversation yet you seem to have felt the need to speak up and let everyone know that we should just say Range Rover instead of MKIII.

Noted.

Still your arguement is moot. It's like when people think that they need to speak louder to someone that doesn't speak English... Like somehow the non-English speaking person will hear and understand the words better.

It's a Forum everyone is part of the conversation. If you want things private between you and the MKIII world then send them an email.
As for the 3 series and 911 comment, that's my point, call it what it is not the generic catch all.
In the end
You call it what you like and I will do the same. Pissing contests on the Internet are pointless. You aren't changing your mind and neither am I.
So, year specific RR for me and MKIII for those that prefer it.

if that is your point then great we all agree and you can call it what it what it is a MKIII RR, and not the generic catch all Range Rover.

I think what Todd is saying is that when someone speaks of a Range Rover he automatically associates that term with a Classic, P38 or MK3, depending on model year.

I see his point as the others are all Range Rover 'somethings'. I normally refer to them as simply "sport" or "evoque".

Although there are profound differences in model years, MK3 at least tell us what body style is being discussed and in most cases is enough information.

And i do miss my 993.
