I put a deposit down on a new 90 today

Hi guys, please excuse me if I am blowing out of my arse but today is a good day.
I put a deposit down on a new 90 and am obviously pretty chuffed about it. I have been looking around and found that If I buy a new, UK spec vehicle in Spain and import into the UK I will save around £5000. For the money I have in my 2000 Discovery TD5 I can have a new 90 with 3 years warranty so I have opted for a Bonnati Grey 90 County Hard Top, it will come with ABS/ETC, aircon, alloys, cold climate pack and some more. The only downside is that I have to wait 4 months before I get my hands on It.

So John, about shipping that X9 to Scotland????

Kevin is probably asleep at the moment but I counted three instances of the word 'new' in his post if that helps

It's actually quite common for Brits (or Scots) to import new cars from other European countries. It's something to do with the purchase tax - I don't remember - it's been 20 years They can even get them with the steering wheel on the wrong side

I'm sure we could ship an X9 to Scotland. I would go with the EP9.0 though. I like EP9.0 a little more than the X9 because of the external brake. Or, even better, get a Husky 10.

you've got me thinking now John. I think I still have my Discovery head on but there are so many more options for a Defender, especially here in the UK where Disco2 aftermarket parts are pretty limited and it is still seen as a soft option. We have an old Husky10 on our working 110, very pleased with it so maybe thats the way to go.
Importing from Europe is fairly common although I have never done it before. basically Land Rover discount the price in other countries according to market conditions in that country. I specify a UK spec model with the steering wheel on the RIGHT side but dont pay the tax in that country as it is for export. I register it here with the UK vehicle licence agency and take the paperwork to the UK taxman and settle his 17.5% and its good to go. I could even have it delivered to my door if required. UK dealer price for my vehicle with extras would be about £23000 ($41000) on the road. I recon I will pay about £18000 ($32000) all tax paid and on the road. With the Discovery 3 about to go on sale depreciation of Discovery 2 values are a dead cert. so its silly not to really.
