Watts Linkage

Can I easily press new bushings into my watts linkage? One of my bushings is shot and I'll be replacing it as soon as the part gets in. Am I going to have to take it into a shop or can I do it in my garage? Thanks.

That's not right Ho. I actually need to do this because the bushing is worn out. I have no reason to try and be cool.

Your truck in an '03 right? Why not have the dealer do it under warranty?

It is an '03. Unfortunately, I didn't get an extended warranty when I got it and I drive a shit-ton so I am at 53k now and out of warranty. Sucks to be me. I got it in Sept. '02 so I do about 25K a year.

you'll probably need a press. do you have the bushing already? does it have a metal sleeve around the rubber? if so, you'll need a press. a pretty decent sized press.

I don't have the bushing yet. It should be in on Wednesday. I'll find out then I guess. I'm sure any local shop will be able to press it in for me for a 'nominal' fee. Thanks.

Damn, I was hoping that wasn't the case. Now I have to cart tools to a shop and do it in their parking lot I guess. Wish I had a press but I don't think I'd get my money's worth for one bushing.

As it turns out, and I'm sure no one will be surprised, I'm an idiot. I removed the watts linkage today to replace the bushing that I thought had gone bad. When I got it out, the bushing looked fine. Why I didn't think to check and make sure the bolt for that bushing was tight enough is beyond me. Anyway, now that it's properly torqued back to 85 ft-lbf it's good to go. No bushing replacement required.

Admitting to a problem is the first step. Seeking help is the next step.
