SCLR BOD Meeting / "Election"

I was saddened to learn Kevin stepping down as VP. Meeting him at RR7 my thoughts of him are nothing short of pleasant. Under the current climate of the SCLR its no wonder he left! (in my opinion) "Joe" on the Board was in true form, and John's name was thrown out to replace the BODs movements to hopefully "smooth" things over. Something Stinks really bad over there. What happened to elections? The whole thing is in shambles!

seems like a lot of members won't be joining again after this mess. I for one will not and it's not just because of the drinking on the trail issue. They're clueless over there and no one seems to care. The things they spend money on, the things they don't spend money on, who money goes to, the decisions they make... all poor. I don't know if many or any of you know this but the club doesn't contribute money to any of the environmental organizations that help keep off-roading and the land we use accessible. I spend most of the year in NY but do all of my wheeling in CA. The only trail run I do with SCLR is the annual RR as I don't enjoy traffic on the trail; however, I always thought it was important that there be a club and to support that club... that has changed.

Sheki, I'm with you on this one. I've been an on-again, off-again member of SCLR for a few years and I have opinions on the events of the past week that I have largely kept to myself because I am not a current dues-paying member. My primary reason for not renewing in the past was because of the behavior and environment I witnessed from attendees on trips like RR and Pismo in the past.

My primary reasons for renewing in the past were the Pismo Beach runs and RR. I renewed in the past because I did not feel it was right to attend these events as an unpaid member. However, the events of the past week have cemented my decision to hold my renewals until the environment of the club changes.

This whole alcohol policy stinks to high heaven. For example, this statement just reeks of chickenshit to me:

"SCLR supports and abides by the prevailing laws and codes applicable to the consumption of alcohol
and/or drugs on the road, on the trail, and in the backcountry. In particular, Vehicle Code, Division 11,
Chapter 12, Article 2, Sections 23152, 23220, and 23221..."

I feel strongly that back country and off-road driving should be held to a higher standard than the California Vehicle Code, and I am of the opinion that this decision is indicative of the current atmosphere of the club.

To me it seems that instead of confronting the issue of alcohol on the trail, the BOD took the unfortunate path of least resistance and hid behind CVC and their insurance policy. I feel this caters to the lowest common denominator of the club and to me that term aptly describe many members of SCLR.

As it was once so eloquently stated, "clubs are for baby seals." I find this statement as appropriate as ever.

I agree with John. There are a couple threads on SCLR for these posts.

Even if you are NOT a current member, I think it is important for the club to hear from any and all concerned or interested in the club.

So I just threw my name in the hat for the open position. I figure the only way to direct the club in the direction needed is to step up. Maybe I can help get the club back on the right track. At least that's the plan.

Read, I think it would be just what SCLR needs. I for one would vote for you! But are you sure you know what kind of pit your diving into?? Admirable.

Honestly, how could anyone vote for that guy? I have no personal experience, but having read his posts on dweb and sclr... I mean seriously? Was there a 10% margin for error?
