I'm going to dissent on the fruitcake thing.

I like fruitcake. I think most people would as well if they hadn't been brainwashed by popular culture's telling them that they're not supposed to like fruitcake.

Fruitcake is like anchovies. Popular culture also tells people that they're not supposed to like anchovies. When I was a kid, it was very common for people on television or movies to say "hold the anchovies" when they ordered a pizza.

I like anchovies. I like fruitcake.

Popular culture definitely has an impact on how people form opinions about food. Anchovies are unpopular, but Thai food is very popular even though it's loaded with fish sauce. It's way nastier and stinkier than anchovies.

That being said, fruitcake is nasty.

Eggnog.

I like eggnog.

I even crack up when someone thinks it's some super duper gourmet cool shit to say he doesn't like eggnog.

I do not like fruitcake and never have.

I really can't think of too many other foods that I would rather choose to eat fruitcake rather than eating it. Probably balut.

I have no problem with anchovies and I actually like a well-spiced eggnog at Christmas time.

Vendors bring us fruit cakes every year. In the 17 years I've been here I've never nibbled on a fruit cake I cared for.

But eggnog? Eww. I didn't know people actually cared for eggnog. Kind of like punch made with Sprite, fake fruit juice and sherbert ice cream. You see it everywhere but I did not know people actually enjoyed eggnog or punch.

Somewhere in this thread there are photos of some of you guys eating pig guts. I would be willing to try some of these pig gut recipes. But just the mention of eggnog turns my stomach.

I love anchovies. I love eggnog. I've never had a bite of fruitcake but I probably would like it too. Come to think of it, I haven't had too many things I didn't like.

Balut, anyone?

What's not to love about fruitcake? Two colors of cherries, citron, pineapple, cake, nuts, some brandy or bourbon?

To go with your fruitcake:
