Sheki and I drove up Angeles Crest yesterday to check out the devastation. The sound of rock fall was a constant background noise wherever we stopped and the familiar smell of charred would hung in the air. Construction crews were scattered along power lines, roads and under bridges repairing what they could. There was not a guard rail still in place, all burnt to a crisp and the metal melted and disfigured.

The first rains will bring a whole new level of disaster to that area.

That was an intense sum of minutes. I have no idea how long it took, time stood still for me during that escape. The picture captures it perfectly.
