Pelicans aren't trusted on the other side of the world

I went to Bali and the woman at the check-in counter asked me "What's in this case?" then I said "A camera." and she immediately slapped the sticker on the Pelican.

I've checked a 1650 a few times and have never had a fragile sticker stuck on. I do get some very strange looks as I walk through the airport, though.

The last time I checked in a 1650, it was before all of these a la carte baggage charges. I used to check in at the curb, tip the guy $10, and the skycap usually forgot about putting it on the scale.

That's what I used to do, too.

1650 are so heavy it will be over the weight limit with barely anything in it.

Also, I used to get pulled aside at the customs all the time. Something about 6'4'' Korean guy with facial hair and bunch of Pelican cases don't mix well with the customs agents.

I checked a 1650 last year to Jamaica. It was an additional $50, each way.

Pelican cases always get extra scrutiny throughout the former Soviet Union. That's why I stick my cat in there, he jumps out and the customs agents and I always have a good laugh

I understand the extra scrutiny though, a Pelican case is looks important, so naturally an agent would assume that it would contain all my spy gear, material for inciting civil unrest, or some of the "cultural values" which you must declare when entering Russia.
