Nothing wrong with 2.5NA. It's no 300 Tdi on the highway (and the three hundy is no V8) but it's perfectly fine for desert trips.

I thought my 3.9 RRC was slow until Jack got his D110 with 2.5NA.

I recall driving back from wheeling in Death Valley one night and passing Jack going up a hill like he was standing still. I think a bicycle would have been faster.

Actually the 300Tdi is a lot closer to the V8 then you think. The one I have in the 110 is probably making close to 150hp as compared to the 68hp the 2.5NA made when it was factory fresh. I'm guessing most of those engines are closer to 50hp by the time you drive them.

Sheki's 2.8PS with the VVT drove almost exactly like the 4.0 GEMS on the highway.

That sounds right. Torque is more relevant to seat-of-the-pants and Sheki's 2.8 prob puts out 230-235 ft lbs which is the same as a 3.9/4.0 V8.

The 300tdi puts out just 200 ft lbs which I think is around twice the torque of the 2.5NA.
