Winston Churchill Month On KCET

During the month of October, KCET is airing several documentaries about Winston Churchill. If you have the time, don't miss these documentaries about one of the most interesting men in History.

Churchill on the fate of the British Empire after France's surrender to Germany: "Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that if the British Empire and Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'"

Churchill on the Battle of Britain: "The gratitude of every home in our island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world except in the abodes of the guilty goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unweakened by their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of world war by their prowess and their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few."

Winston Churchill was indeed a bad-ass.

Churchill

Man, what a command of the english language: I wonder if he wrote all his own stuff, or had help. Either way, very impressive use of language.

Churchill is definitely one of my heroes!

It's difficult to realize how bleak the future appeared to the British people during 1939-40. After years of appeasment policy under Chamberlain, the hope and leadership brought to Great Britain by Winston Churchill cannot be overstated. Truly the "man of the hour" on several occasions during his lifetime.

If you get the chance to visit London, don't limit your visit the standard tourist destinations (Madame Tussauds, The Tower, Buckingham, etc.). Take a day or two at least to visit The Imperial War Museum and the RAF Museum Hendon. Both can be reached via the "Tube". You will NOT be disappointed!
