04 Envy...

from 1999 through 2004 land rover has built what we call the "disco2" or "disco series II"
unfortunately or fortunately land rover has basically put together the ultimate disco 2 thus far in 2004. "the last of the mohicans"... land rover has moved on to LR3.
personally i couldn't resist passing it and not having an 04 in my posession...

4.6 V8 and the ride is completely different from my previous 2000 disco 2. so much more civilized and controlled. i am amazed.

Ooh la la! Very nice, Han. Congratulations.

When are the white trash fender flares coming off? We did MV's fender flares last night and I must say the white D2 looks even better without the flares than the silver, orange, and green D2's we've facelifted.

Very nice, Han-so when is it going to get dirty? Are you going to take it next offroad trip or stay with RRC?

depends on the trip... eventually the disco will get dirty and will see wheelin but not really in a hurry to do so. the rangie is officially my project car and less of a daily driver. besides, the rangie drives like shit these days so i'll TRY to give it some love now. but i'm sure the rangie will see more wheelin than the disco.

Ccongratulations Han! The white looks awesome. I am definately '04 envious after seeing the LR3 in person. I have to say I'm thoroughly unimpressed. I'll give it a year and I'll get one just like yours, except without the wheel arches

Actually, whether or not Al removes his fender flares is immaterial to who is going to buy dinner for whom.

Why? Because there's some sucka with a silver 03 Disco2 who is closet white trash and won't remove his fender flares.

OK, here's the story behind my bet with Craig.

Craig was at the shop one Saturday and we were discussing this pic:

As you can see there, the Australian-spec Disco2 has no fender flares. So, seeing no holes there we thought the NAS-spec fender flares were merely adhered to the body and not bolted on. We cautiously peeled away one of Craig's fender flares to check for bolts and didn't see any. So we pulled one fender flare completely off and found to our great delight that there were no bolts at all. The fender flares were merely stuck onto the body with double-sided foamy tape. (There's a T25 Torx screw at the top of the front wheel arch that you should remove just in case while pulling the front fender flare, but it doesn't really hold the front fender flares on.)

So we peeled off all four fender flares from Craig's D2 and the result was very nice:

I was stunned at the result. Craig's truck looked really good. I remarked to Craig that this was was going to be the start of a new trend. That is, more and more people would remove their fender flares because the body wheel arches are very nice and the plastic fender flares are unsightly, white trash, ghetto, Jeepified, etc.

Craig responded that he didn't think the mod would be too popular. I disagreed. So we made a bet. The bet was that four of the following five persons would remove their fender flares by 12/31/04:

Aaron Shrier
Al Cruz
Doug Carey
Keith McFatridge
Michael Villanueva

The bet was for dinner at Houston's. Anything we wanted and as much as we could stuff into our faces. That kind of dinner. I was very confident I would win the bet. I even planned out my dinner menu:

martini cocktail for starters while I ripped on Craig for his foolishness
caesar salad (with anchovies of course) to start
medium-rare Hawaiian steak with Brussels spouts on the side
side order of fresh tomatoes with Balsamico
several Newcastles with dinner
that F'd up brownie desert with vanilla ice cream on top that Houston's serves
several Marlboro Lights after dinner to wash it all down

I was very confident that the mod would speak for itself and prove to be very popular, but hus far only MV has removed his fender flares. Ho removed the fender flares from his G4, but Ho wasn't one of the five (Ho didn't have his G4 at the time Craig and I made the bet.) To my great dismay, only one of those five persons has proved to be civilized enough to free himself from the bonds of white trashdom. I guess people are more into something like this:

Oh the horror.

The way it's looking thus far, I'll be buying Craig dinner. LOL.

I say do it.

But, unfortunately, you don't count toward the bet. It has to be four of those five people listed and they don't seem to be removing anything that I can see.

I say do it too.

the wheel wells look disproportionately large there because of the shading. The white wheel arch would look very nice in that pic.

In fact, once those arches fall off, take an identical picture sans wheelarches. I bet the result is much nicer.
