Good TV This Weekend

SciFi Channel will air the series premier of the new Battlestar Galactica tomorrow. Check out the details at:

http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/

I'm pretty pumped up. I liked the original show a lot when I was a kid, and this remake seems pretty good. I enjoyed the pilot movie a lot.

Food TV will also be airing the series premier of Iron Chef America on Sunday. This is a far cry from the real deal Iron Chef with Takeshi Kaga, but it should be entertaining. For details, check out:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_ia_the_series/

Enjoy.

The pilot was pretty good, I saw it when it first aired then watched it again last week.

I have some issues with it though. First, Boomer is a black guy not asian and not a chick and definately not a Cylon. Second, Starbuck is a ladies man not a lady (a butch one at that) so maybe the new starbuck is a ladies lady who knows.

I'm sure they did that shit to be PC but come on, keep the original shit the same and add some more female and ethnic characters if that's what they're going for.

Alright, I'm done bitching and I'll be watching it anyway.

I would swear I saw an episode of ICA last summer with William Shatner as host.

Dirk Benedict is the heart and soul of Gallactica. I couldn't bear to watch it without him.

Keep on riding Kamikaze Cowboy.

Yeah, I was cracking up when Boomer turned out to be an Asian chick.

Anyone remember that fat ass Jolly? What happened to Jolly? Or does the Galactica mess serve only lean cuisine? And what happened to Adama's hottie daughter "Athena"? Is there no justice?

I used to love it when those guys would play Kobol poker. Starbuck would always be smoking his cigar and he would always have a Full Pyramid. Then the red alert wound sound and he would lose all of his gold chips.

Ah, the memories.....

I guess they wanted to put more women and ethnic groups in there and forgot all about Jolly, I guess fat people aren't PC enough for them.

Yeah, Iron Chef just ain't Iron Chef without Chairman Kaga. He picks the challengers; he picks the theme ingredient, he picks the guests. All of his choices are the product of thoughtfulness and reflection, and it really shows. Without him the show just ain't the same.

The new chairman is a joke, with his numba one son bullshit Karate Kid mumbo jumbo. The guests suck, at least so far. Alton Brown is good, but he can't touch Yukio Hattori. Also, it sucks when Alton Brown americanizes the pronunciation of all of the ingredients, techniques, etc. So there's no doubt Iron Chef America will never be able to touch the real Iron Chef.

On the other hand, the old Iron Chef is getting old. I think I've seen almost every battle (at least the ones on Food TV). Those battles are awesome, no doubt about that. But one can watch the same battles only so many times.

I have hopes for Iron Chef America. It won't be the same but it should be interesting. One thing I'm looking forward to is seeing familiar challengers, challengers from the top American restaurants. The Fuji TV Iron Chef occasionally had American challengers like Ron Segal, but most of the challengers were from the top Japanese restaurants and occasionally from Europe.

Also, as cheeseball as Iron Chef America is, it could be worse. Food TV could have made Emeril one of the Iron Chefs if only to get higher ratings from the white trash.

I assume you're talking about Rick Bayless. He has two restaurants in Chicago: Frontera Grill and Topolobampo in Chicago. They're upscale Mexican restaurants. I've only been to Frontera Grill, but it is really good. There's no substitute for a freshly made corn tortilla.

Make sure that you get there about 40 minute before they open. Frontera Grill doesn't take reservations. If you get there when they open, you will be looking at a 2 hour wait.

That's why they have Bobby Flay on. He is such a whiny little bitch. All he does is "blacken" every thing.

Agreed. Bobby Flay is so one-dimensional. Everything is blackened this and blackened that. Then he adds a little sweetness, whether in the form of molasses, sugar, brown suger, honey, etc. Then he adds a little heat, whether by Tabasco, other hot sauce, chiles, powder, curry, whatever. Then he adds something for a little crunch, whether it's hard fruits, vegetables, burned cheese, whatever. It's always the same old shit, whatever ingredients he uses.

I was watching Iron Chef America a few nights ago and next week's battle is supposed to be Ming Tsai against Bobby Flay. This battle looks as if it's going to be good. Ming Tsai is Mr. Fusion Asian/French and Bobby Flay is Mr. Fusion Mexican/American, so it's basically a battle of the fusions.

Don't miss it.
