MOD Pattern Room moves....

Interesting article, and some collection of firearms.

I grew up knowing that place as the "Enfield Pattern Room", but I think the Royal Small Arms Factory Enfield is no more.

That Pattern Room is awesome. I've always wanted to visit that place.

The weapons in those recent pics are looking a little shabby to me. Perhaps my memory is foggy, but the pics from my youth of the Enfield Pattern Room were spectacular, and the weapons were all shiny/oily and standing in really nice wooden racks.

Another change is that everyone in the Pattern Room before was wearing gloves, at least in the pics that I saw. That recent pic has the guy handling the MG's with bare hands, and I very much doubt he does a daily wipe on the guns.

Maybe with the move and all the weapons couldn't be maintained as they were in the past. Hopefully the new Pattern Room will be as nice as the old one. (Although I doubt it will be. Those racks for the Sterlings are cheesy.)

Man, a visit would be incredible...

The Royal Armouries would be a highlight of a visit to London. They've got some great military and aircraft museums. Hmmm, Lynn and the kids have been talking about a trip to London...

I don't know how the Royal Armouries exhibit would be (I'm sure it would be sweet), but I think the Pattern Room isn't open to the public. It's a shame, but I can see why they don't the general public handling those weapons.
