AMATEUR RADIO LICENSE TESTING - Feb 25th.

I am right now studying for my Technician license. I plan on taking the test on Feb 25th. Saturday.

Here's the test location information:

http://w6trw.com/ve_testing/ve_testinghtml.htm

Anyone care to join me?

It's very close to the 405:

Heck, if Ho's gonna go for it, I'll have to try for my general license.

Aaron and Craig, are you up for the general challenge?

AWESOME! Get the general and put the HF to the test.

I just took my first practice exam. I was sweating bullets and barely passed. LOL

That date works out much better, thanks Ho.
I just took a practice exam and only scored 60%, look like I'll have to hit the books a bit more.

Here is the address for those interested in the free practice exam

I will give the general a shot.

I have the study book for the tech exam if anyone wants old school study over internet study.

Here's what I am using right now for studying:

http://www.hamtestonline.com/

It keeps track of what you miss, and it keeps hammering you with the questions you have difficulties with.

Here's a screen shot of my first practice test results:

http://www.expeditionexchange.com/ham/test01.jpg

It's a pretty effective system.

Register for 49.95 for 2 years.

John used it for his Tech exam, and is still using it for his General.

Yeah, that's what I will use to study for the general.

But the book is free to someone if they don't want to spend the $$.

I think this is a great way for us to get our licenses. The definite date is a deadline of sorts and makes us study here and now instead of sometime later on. Furthermore, the peer pressure will make us study harder, if only to avoid failing in front of everyone else there that day.

I second Ho's recommendation for Hamtestonline. It's not free like the eham or QRZ tests, but the $50 fee is well worth it I think. Hamtestonline is a "smart" system and can test you on your weak points more than the random exams. You can also study randomly if you prefer that. It's a very effective way to study for the exams. The subscription is good for two years, so you can study for your general or extra tickets if you're inclined. But if you use hamtestonline for only your technician license, that'll still be money well spent.

I'll be going for both Element 1 (Morse Code) and Element 3 (General) that day. I'll have to study really hard to pass both and there's a high likelihood of failing both elements. But now I'm motivated. I don't want to be the only sucka day that day who comes back empty handed.

Anybody else want to go that day to get his technician ticket? Bryant? Matt? Al? Han? MV?

Dave Lara? You want to try for your general ticket that day?

Let's do it!

John or Ho, you may want to contact the club in advance and let them know that a bunch of us will be there.

Bam! Try to make it. I think this day could be epic.

Ho and I are going to close the shop that day, so I'll have the whole day off for hamplay. If you guys want to hit the TRW ham swap meet after the exams, I'm into that. I'd also be up for a celebratory lunch and even a run to Jun's for some toys.
