Sirius Question

Just got my Epsom Green 2004 Disco II (33k miles, in service date of January 11, 2005, plus Land Rover Certified extended warranty coverage!) today. Nice!

I want to have Sirius satellite radio installed. Any suggestions on units to consider?

Thanks in advance,

RW

I can see which radio I bought... it fits into the ash tray/coin holder opening.

lol... watches, radios, what else??

Ho, I figured I confused you with the rear lamp guards... I hope they aren't janky looking once I get them installed. I guess anything is better than the stock '04 tail light look.

I bought an SE, and had them swap the 16" wheels from an S model for the SE's split spoke 18" rims. Since the wheels came off an S with 45000 miles they put on new tires and gave me the choice of rubber. 245 75 R16 BFG ATs. I'll be removing the WT wheel arches too, so don't worry.

Now, about that satellite radio...?

Ron,

This is the kit I had installed in my D1:
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/SIRIU...oductDetail.do

The control unit is simple and has a utilitarian look and feel without curves or cheesy names like "Sportster." It's mounted where the sunroof controls would have been (SD). The backlighting is a light blue. That bothers me. Even at lowest brightness it lights up the interior too much. At some point this fall I'm going to try and open the unit and see what I can do to replace the LEDs with green or perhaps attach some sort of transparent green mylar to filter the blue.

I put the small magnetic antenna above the passenger side top corner of the windshield. Works pretty well, even in the middle of a heavily wooded stream crossing between hills in western NC. My roof rack seems to block the signals, but this only lasts for a few seconds, and then only once in a blue moon when the satellites are all at just the wrong angle in relation to the truck.

My wife was using a mobile Sirius receiver in her '04 D2 but finally got tired of dealing with that configuration and had the same unit I use installed this summer. It's mounted in front of the CDL and the shifter doesn't hit it... your fingers might if they are wrapped around the front of the shifter, though.

Neither of us were happy with aftermarket receivers which would replace the stock receiver, so we went with this add-on for both vehicles.

Stephen
