03 Trek Edition or 04 G4

I read somewhere that the G4 actually isn't a "special vehicle" and that the 03 Trek Edition is. True? Are there any other reasons to choose an 03 Trek Edition over a G4?

True.

They're both nice but I prefer the TReK. I think it looks cooler.

I think I remember that all TReKs have ACE. Is that true?

I like the look of the TReK's better but if it has ACE that would be a deal breaker on top of the G4 having the CDL.

The one 2003 TReK I've played with had CDL, as well as the Xterra-style roof bars. I think the 2003 TReKs are really 04s.

I agree with you on this one, although I think the G4 looks good without all the decals on it. I just don't think much of the Blue on the orange, if they would have went with black maybe.

Hmmm,

"The 2004 Discovery model used for TReK 2003 features a 4.6-liter engine with manually locking center differential. Burns and his crew feel it's the most capable Discovery ever built, and the terrain in Colorado was a perfect place to showcase the full extent of its capability."

from http://www.landrover.de/us/en/Compan..._news/TReK.htm

Yes...

And I found this one in a local dealer here in Miami. They wanted 40k for it though...

An '03 trek with 44K miles for $25K is on landroverexchange.com right now. Looks like a clean, all original truck. It's making me consider dumping my '04 for it.

I love these 03 TReK trucks. I wish I had one. One time a customer drove up in one and was eying my Defender. I almost pitched the idea to him of a vehicle swap, but stopped myself.

These TReK trucks are so cool. Whenever I look at one, I'm sort of like a woman planning her wedding: "Oh, I know exactly what wheels I would fit, and what winch would go nicely in the winch basket, and the switch layout for the lights, etc."

The foundation for a very nice trail truck is definitely there, in spades.

Don't goad me. I'll buy if you want to buy an '04 bonatti with 27K miles...

Owning the Trek would mean actually wheeling it. And I would feel conflicted about it.

These trucks were definitely better equipped than the G4s, no? The interiors are killer as well.

The one TReK truck that I'm familiar with had the black synthetic leather seats. I dig these much more than the "real" leather seats, but I prefer the G4 Edition's nubby rubber seats:

Huh, my G4 had the regular Duragrain seats. I saw a G4 on eBay a while back that had black leather, but it was likely an add-on.

Not that it matters much, but how sweet would it have been had they not put fender flares on the G4s and Treks? They just stand out to me in the pictures.

The 2003 TReK that I'm familiar with didn't have sunroofs, and on the blank where the sunroof switches would go there was a silver-colored plastic Special Vehicles badge. I would rather see this on that blank:

James, you got ripped off. Those nubby rubber seats are sweet. The nubby rubber seats are also standard on the G4 Edition Defenders in the UK parts catalog. I thought about ordering some for my truck but reconsidered because it would be wannabe and thus lame.

For the fender flares, that would be the first thing I remove. Yuck.

I think that Trek on Ebay is ruined with the addition of the Safari Snorkel
