Hella 3003 ACCU Rechargeable Hazard/Work Lamp (007146011) $140 This combination hazard/work lamp can be seen up to two miles away and complies with German road traffic regulations (StVZO, paragraph 53 a) that requires all stationary vehicles to be equipped with a hazard flasher lamp to prevent accidents and maximize safety to motorists. The unit can be set to emit a flashing amber light for for up to 40 hours to warn other motorists or a constant-on white light for up to seven hours for use as a worklamp. Why fit auxiliary lights at all? Compare the two Disco1 in the above photograph. This is nighttime on the Dusy Ershim trail in Central California. While it is usually good trail etiquette to turn off one's auxiliary lights when following someone on the trail at night, there are times the rule must not be followed. Michel Findlay's Disco1 in front has only its headlights to illuminate the trail ahead and must rely on the vehicle behind to illuminate the trail because the headlights are insufficient for the task. The four Rallye 4000's on Kyle Van Tassel's Disco1 literally light up the night while the headlights on the forward vehicle do very little.
The Dusy is a very difficult trail and this is doubly true at night. Auxiliary lights help greatly with preventing accidents and vehicle damage during night runs.
Here is another comparison. These photos were taken during a Night Run At Area 51. The Range Rover Classic on the left is using only its headlamps to illuminate the trail ahead while the Defender 90 on the right is using both its headlights and auxiliary lights. The difference is remarkable. The trail, obstacles, and hazards are all better illuminated with the auxiliary lights.
These three vehicles illuminate the trail conditions with their auxiliary lights. The trail is made much safer and more enjoyable with auxiliary lights.
Don't think this can happen to you? It can. When you are wheeling at night, it is often difficult to see drop-offs and you can easily drive off a precipice. Auxiliary lighting will go a long way toward enabling you to see better and avoid accidents like this. Notice all of the IPF Auxiliary Lights on this vehicle are turned off. If you got the tools, use 'em.
Auxiliary lights can also make nighttime recoveries safer. Auxiliary lights are so much more than eye candy for your vehicle.
The most powerful light in Hella's auxiliary light lineup is the Rallye 4000 Motorsports HID Euro Beam. Using High Intensity Discharge (HID) technology, the HID Euro Beam draws only 35w of power but emits the equivalent of a 300w bulb. Not only is the light emitted brighter than with a halogen bulb, the light emitted is whiter in color and closer to the color of daylight. Furthermore, HID capsules burn cooler and have a much longer useful life than halogen bulbs.
HID lighting technology replaces the filament of the light bulb with a capsule of gas. The light is emitted from an arc discharge between two closely spaced electrodes hermetically sealed inside a small quartz glass tubular capsule. To ignite, the capsule requires a ballast, which supplies proper voltage and control current. The amount of light produced is greater than a standard halogen bulb, while consuming less power, and more closely approximating the color temperature of natural daylight.
This is the ballast that comes with every HID Euro Beam.
HID lights provide much more performance than halogen lights, which is why they are the choice of competition vehicles around the world.
The HID Euro Beams look similar to the halogen 4000's but have several distinguishing features. The black exterior finish is glossy. The mounting system, described more particularly below, is identical to that of the halogen 4000's.
The rear dome on the 4000 Euro Beam is red and is taller than the dome on the halogen 4000's.
Also red is the bezel surrounding the lens.
The bezel is appropriately marked.
Unlike the halogen 4000's, which are sold à la carte and without wiring components, the HID Euro Beams comes complete with its own wiring harness. For $670, it had better.
The ballast is plug and play. The Weatherpak connector that plugs into the ballast prevents the ingress of water or other contaminants into the ballast.
A glossy black plastic cover is provided for applications where the ballast cannot be hidden.
The fuse on the HID Euro Beam's harness is rated for only 15 amps because HID lights are so efficient and draw so little power. Imagine drawing the power of a 35w bulb but emitting the power of a 300w bulb. Such is the beauty of HID technology.
If you want the best possible lighting performance for your vehicle, then the HID Euro Beams may suit you.
The Rallye 4000's compose Hella's premium line of halogen auxiliary lamps. We believe these are the nicest and best auxiliary halogen lamps available for your Land Rover. If you can fit these large lamps, the Rallye 4000's are the ones to get. On the left is the Rallye 4000 Fog. The Rallye 4000 Euro Beam is on the right.
The Rallye 4000 Cornering Beam features a glass lens that features the lens shape of both the Fog and Euro Beam Lamps. This is only as it should be, as the Cornering Beam is somewhat of a combination of the Fog and Euro Beam patterns.
The Rallye 4000 Cornerings produce a very wide beam. This is a much more useful beam than a very focused beam that reaches very far. Offroad driving is usually done at relatively slow speeds. Thus, there the Rallye 4000 Cornering Lamp is very well suited for general purpose use.
The Rallye 4000 Pencil Beam has a perfectly clear lens. The shape is pattern is dictated solely by the FreeForm Reflector.
The Rallye 4000's are made entirely of metal, and not plastic.
To support the heavy weight of the Rallye 4000's, Hella devised this very sturdy mounting system. There is no finer mounting system for your auxiliary lights. The mounting base is metal and is very strong.
The 4000 mounting system features two adjustment knobs to adjust the lights once the mounting base is securely mounted.
The two adjustment knobs enter the rear of the mounting base,
and thread against a backing plate that is secured inside the metal 4000 Lamp housing. A rubber gasket protects the metal 4000 Lamp housing and mounting base against scratches. The metal 4000 Lamp housing is clamped between the mounting base and the backing plate when the two adjustment knobs are tightened.
The entire assembly looks like this when assembled properly. There is a wide range of adjustment between the 4000 Lamp housing and the mounting base once the adjustment knobs are loosened.
The adjustment knobs can be tightened using the supplied allen wrench.
Only this 4000 mounting system is strong enough to support the weight of the all-metal 4000 Lamp housings. There is no finer mounting system on any auxiliary light currently on the market.
If you have Rallye 4000's fitted your vehicle, you know how large the white stone shields make your lights appear. Furthermore, the logos on the white stone shields make patent any misalignment in the orientation of the covers.
Ho's white stone shields look like this now. After years of removing them and tossing them in the back of his truck whenever he wanted to ignite his Rallye 4000's, Ho's white stone shields weren't looking too good.
Rather than fit replacement white stone shields, Ho fitted his old Discovery XD with Rallye 4000 Clear Covers. The Clear Covers do not highlight any misalignment in the cover arrangement and they make the very large Rallye 4000 Lamps appear smaller and slimmer.
We have never thought highly of squeezing three lights onto the front bumper, as the result inevitably appears crowded and contrived. However, the fitment of the Clear Covers definitely makes this arrangement more palatable.
We much prefer the Rallye 4000 Clear Covers for several reasons. First and most importantly, the lights can be ignited with the Clear Covers fitted. This is not so with the white stone shields where the stone shields must be removed to use the lights.
Second, the Stone shields sit proud of the lights and can be flushed out with a garden hose if dirt or mud gets trapped between the Clear Cover and the light body. Third, the danger of damaging the Clear Covers is minimized because they are never removed and tossed into the cargo area of the vehicle with other gear.
Fourth, the Clear Covers just look better. The Clear Covers lend a certain elegance to the lights and makes them appear smaller and sleeker in shape. The Clear Covers also do not draw the eye toward the lights the way the white Stone Shields do. Thus, the lights appear to be more integrated with the rest of the vehicle.
An alternative to both the white stone shield and the Clear Cover is the Rallye 4000 Grill Cover.
The Grill Cover does not protect the lamp from stones but permits the user to ignite the Lamp while the cover is still fitted.
In the center of the Grill Cover is a "Hella" logo which may be removed if desired.
The Grill Cover makes the ponderously large 4000 Non-Compact Lamps appear smaller and more elegant, especially when several Rallye 4000 Lamps are used together on a single vehicle. Each Rallye 4000 Compact Driving Beam comes standard with a 55w H1 halogen bulb and mounting hardware. No cover, either opaque or clear, is included.
The Rallye 4000 Compact Clear Cover is available separately.
Unlike the Rallye 4000 Clear Cover, the Rallye 4000 Compact Clear Cover bulges outward in the middle to accommodate the Rallye 4000 Compact's bulged lens.
The Rallye 4000 Compact Clear Cover snaps onto the Rallye 4000 Compact and is held securely in place by the four placement tabs.
While the Hella 4000 Lamps are the ultimate halogen lamps for most applications, there are numerous applications where a small light is more desirable. The Micro DE Fog Lamps are ideal for mounting on motorcycles like the BMW Gelande/Strasse or KTM Adventure models the, or for stealth mounting on vehicles. The Micro DE Fog Lamps are small enough that they can be mounted almost anywhere, yet they provide a tremendous amount of light. Don't be fooled by the size of these lamps. Using DE technology, these small lamps project a superior beam and greater light output than the 500 and 550 Fog Lamps. Each Micro DE Fog Lamp Kit comes standard with two Micro DE Fog Lamps fitted with 55w H3 halogen bulbs, mounting hardware, wiring harness, switch, and relay. All components necessary for a proper installation of these lights are included in the box.
The Micro DE Fog Lamps use Hella's proprietary DE technology in both the lens and the reflector.
Each Micro DE Fog Lamp is very small and fits into the palm of your hand. Each lamp is only 5.5" long and 2.6" in diameter.
Even two Micro DE Fog Lamps will fit into your hand. That is how small these lights are. But don't forget that these micro-sized lamps will produce more light and a superior pattern than the 500 and 550 Fog Lamps. These are not toys, like the other micro-sized lights on the market from other manufacturers. Rather, these are very useful auxiliary lights for your vehicle and especially for your motorcycle.
The Micro DE Fog Lamps are very simple to install using rudimentary tools.
When mounted, the Micro DE Fog Lamps are small enough that they do not protrude like other, larger auxiliary lights. These Micro DE Fog Lamps mounted to this GS Adventure are tucked enough that they are very unlikely to be damaged in a fall.
The Micro DE Fog Lamps also provide an elegant appearance. There is "Dumbo" or "Mickey Mouse" effect, as would occur had larger auxiliary lamps been fitted.
The FF 300 Driving and Fog Lamp Kits are a departure from the standard round or rectangular lights. These oval lights feature FreeForm Reflectors and perfectly clear glass lenses. The styling on these lights is very modern, but they are not so pimp that they look silly on a Land Rover. In fact, we like their appearance very much.
The FF 300 Driving and Fog Lamp Kits feature perfectly clear glass lenses that do not shape the pattern in the manner that other lights do. Therefore, the FF 300 Fog Lamps feature a shroud around the 55w H3 halogen bulb to shape the light pattern emitted into a fog pattern. Like all good fog lights, this FF 300 Fog Lamp will feature a distinct horizontal cutoff of the beam, with all light directed to the sides and downward.
Both the FF 300 Driving and Fog Lamp Kits come complete with all mounting hardware, wiring, relays, and switches for a proper installation. These kits also come with white stone shields to protect the clear glass lenses from stones or other road debris.

Though the white stone shield is attractive, we much prefer the appearance and function of the FF 300 Clear Cover.
The FF 300 Clear Cover has an especially smart appearance on the FF 300 Lamps because these lamps feature perfectly clear glass lenses.
Sam Yu's Disco1 is fitted with four FF 300 Driving Lamps on his Safety Devices Highlander Roof Rack. The FF 300's provide a good amount of light without protruding from the Highlander Rack. These FF 300 Lamps are much more tucked between the vertical members of the Highlander Rack and are much less likely to get hit or damaged by low-hanging branches. The oval shape of the FF 300's also breaks up the sometimes monotonous look of six Rallye 4000's or other large numbers of the same model light.
Dennis and Maura White were fortunate enough to visit Eastnor Castle for the Land Rover Ultimate Challenge. All of the ex-Camel Trophy vehicles at Eastnor Castle were fitted with Hella auxiliary lights. The Brownchurch brushguard on this vehicle is fitted with the 550 Driving Lamp Kit. The Brownchurch roof rack is fitted with two sets of 500 Lamps. The inboard lights are the 500 Clear Fog Lamp Kit and the outboard lights are the 500 Driving Lamp Kit.
For the 500 Lamps, we highly recommend the 500 Clear Covers. The Clear Covers also lend a certain elegance to the lowest member of the Hella line of auxiliary lights and make their appearance more congruous with the elegant lines of a Land Rover. We believe that the 500 Lamps will benefit more aesthetically from the fitment of the Clear Covers than any other Hella light.
Here is a 500 Driving Lamp without the Clear Cover fitted. The 500 is Hella's economy model and doesn't have the elegance or quality of construction of the Rallye 4000.
Fitting a 500 Clear Cover to the same lamp gives it a much more "finished" appearance, as well as protecting the glass lens from small stones and other impacts.
The 500 Clear Cover is secured to the 500 Lamp by four tabs. In this fashion, the Clear Cover is securely fitted to the Lamp.
The 500 Clear Cover has a small bumper attached to the middle that keeps the Clear Cover off the glass lens of the 500 Lamp. The airspace between the 500 Clear Cover and the 500 Lamp permits the user to hose out mud and other debris, and also permits airflow to maximize cooling.
Han Chung's Range Rover Classic is fitted with an ARB Winch Bar, H4 Replacement Headlamps, standard 60/55w H4 halogen bulbs, and the 550 Clear Fog Lamp Kit. This is another elegant arrangement. For some odd reason, the ARB Winch Bar for the Range Rover Classic is more handsome than the Winch Bars for either the Disco1 or Disco2. Combining the ARB Winch Bar with the 550 fogs give an added touch of elegance.
John's D90 is fitted simply with two H4 Replacement Headlamps in place of the factory sealed beams, and the 550 Clear Fog Lamp Kit mounted to his Brownchurch brushbar. When he gets around to it, John will eventually fit four 500 Lamps to his Safety Devices Expedition Roof Rack.
As with the Rallye 4000 and 500 Lamps, we highly recommend the fitment of the Clear Covers for the 550 Lamps.
If you drive a Defender or Range Rover Classic, you know how weak the factory sealed beams are. Furthermore, the light emitted from these units is very yellow in color and gives the vehicle a very weathered appearance.
Replace those weak sealed beams with Hella's 7" H4 Replacement Headlamps. Each H4 Replacement Headlamp comes standard with a 60/55w H4 halogen bulb. These units provide a substantially brighter and crisper light pattern than the sealed beams and are a drop-in replacement for the sealed beams. If you stick with the standard 60/55w H4 halogen bulbs that come with the H4 Replacement Headlamps, you don't have to upgrade your factory wiring harness. The H4 Replacement Headlamps will also fit higher-wattage H4 replacement bulbs should you wish. If you fit these high-wattage H4 bulbs, you must fit a Heavy-Duty Wiring Loom to prevent damage your factory wiring harness and switch.
The H4 Replacement headlamps are a drop-in replacement for the factory sealed beams on all Range Rover Classics and Defenders. No modification of the vehicle is necessary for a proper installation, and even the plug pattern on the H4 bulbs matches the female plugs on the factory wiring harness.
