The legendary MINOX TLX is the quintessence of photographic miniaturization.
A masterpiece of optical and mechanical precision that is intricately manufactured to the tightest tolerances, the TLX is small in size but big in imaging performance.
These photos of the TLX beside a set of Defender keys and a standard Zippo lighter show just how small the TLX is.
Do not confuse the TLX with junk pocket cameras. The TLX is a professional-grade subminiature camera. The TLX is manufactured in Germany by MINOX, and not subcontracted to other firms like MINOX's digital cameras.
The TLX uses 8x11mm film. Most specialty camera shops stock and process the 8x11 film format. If you do not have a store in your area that processes 8x11 film, then MINOX USA also provides this service.
and is operated with a push-pull winding mechanism. In the photo above, the TLX is wound and ready for snapping a photograph.
For transport or storage, the TLX may be pushed closed. The push-pull winding mechanism does not advance the film unless the shutter has been released previously. In other words, one may open and close the MINOX TLX an indefinite number of times without advancing the film and wasting exposures. When closed, the MINOX TLX is sealed against contamination.
Shutter speed is electronically controlled and may be adjusted from 1/2000 s to 1/30 of a second. Film speed is adjustable from ISO 12/12° to ISO 400/27°.
Focal plane may be adjusted from 20cm to infinity. Simply turn the dial to the appropriate range.
A permanently fitted UV filter covers the MINOX four-element lens.
The objective and ocular lenses of the viewfinder are exposed when the TLX is open, but covered and protected when the TLX is closed for transport or storage.
All parts are housed in a streamlined aluminum skin with Titanal Eloxat coating for scratch resistance.
The TLX comes complete with a leather carry case.
The top flap of the leather carry case hinges open to reveal the TLX.
The side of the leather carry case also hinges open for easier access to the TLX.
In this manner, removing the TLX from the leather carry case is greatly simplified. The leather carry case is as compact and elegantly designed as the TLX Camera and TLX Tripod.
The leather carry case may also be used to store 8x11 film and the measuring chain that comes with every TLX.
The measuring chain features bumps at predetermined intervals for measuring the distance from the TLX to the object being photographed. The TLX can focus down to 20 cm, so the measuring chain is useful for achieving proper focus for close-up shots.
One end of the measuring chain features a clip that attaches to a lanyard on the leather carry case.
The other end of the measuring chain features a key ring. Thus, the measuring chain may be used as a lanyard as well as a measuring device.
The MINOX TLX Pocket Tripod is a very small, collapsible tripod for the MINOX TLX Subminiature Camera and matches the superb quality and ingenuity of the MINOX TLX Camera in every way.
The TLX Tripod is very thoughtfully designed so that two of the legs store inside the third leg for very compact carry. In the photo above, the TLX Tripod is inserted into the leather carry case and is ready for transport or storage.
Setting up the TLX Tripod is very simple. To start, remove the TLX Tripod from the leather carry case.
The two thinnest of the three tripod legs store inside the fattest leg. An integrated cable release for the TLX stores inside the thinnest of the three legs. To separate the four pieces, simply unthread them from one another.
When the tips of the legs and cable release are unthreaded, they will fall free.
Here are the four tripod pieces together with the leather carry case.
Here are the four tripod pieces. Note that the tips of the tripod legs are threaded.
The TLX Tripod's head is threaded to accept the tips of the two loose tripod legs.
The tripod is now assembled.
The three legs are situated 120 degrees apart for maximum stability.
The TLX Tripod's head features a threaded stud and knurled lock ring for attaching the TLX Camera to the TLX Tripod.
The TLX features a threaded hole that accepts the TLX Tripod's threaded stud.
Simply thread the TLX Camera onto the TLX Tripod and secure with the lock ring.
The completed assembly is now ready for use.
The TLX Tripod is fully adjustable for panning and canting. Canting is easily accomplished by loosening the fattest of the three tripod legs. Unthreading the fat tripod leg loosens the ball joint and permits the TLX Camera to be canted in an infinite number of different ways.
Panning is accomplished by loosening the lock ring and turning the camera left or right relative to the tripod.
To reassemble the TLX Tripod, insert the cable release and thinner tripod legs into the fat tripod leg.
Then thread them together.
The TLX Tripod is now assembled for transport or storage.
Insert the TLX Tripod back into the leather carry case and you are ready to transport or store the TLX Tripod.
Above are the leather carry cases for the TLX and the TLX Tripod.
The MINOX Leica M3 4.0 Digital Classic Camera combines the design features of the legendary Leica M3 with today's digital technology, compressed into a subminiature package. The MINOX Leica M3 has now become a classic on the digital camera scene, where it continues to excite many photographers, dealers and press alike. Although unusual, the MINOX Leica M3 is both easy to use and ideal for those getting started in the field of digital photography and desire classic convention rather than high-tech.
The MINOX Leica M3 is a faithful reproduction of the original Leica M3. The primary difference is that the MINOX Leica M3 is deeper front to back than the original. Focal plane may be adjusted from 1 meter to infinity.
The MINOX Leica M3 uses the MINOCTAR 9.6mm lens.
Image quality is very good for a camera of this size. Above are two unretouched photos taken with the MINOX Leica M3. The MINOX Leica M3 now boasts the attractive feature of 4.0 megapixel resolution, providing the user with sharper recorded images and with even more detailed rendition. Up to 99 images may be recorded on the internal 32 MB memory when set to low resolution. Highest resolution yields a capacity of 40 photographs.
The MINOX Leica M3 does not feature detachable memory cards. Instead, there is a USB port built into the side of the camera. The camera includes a USB cable for convenient transfer of the images into a PC or iPod.
The small LCD display on the camera back provides information on the number of images left to shoot at any given time. For example, the camera shown above has 26 remaining images before its memory must be deposited elsewhere and cleared.
Protect your MINOX Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera during transport with the MINOX Ever Ready Leather Case.
The MINOX Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera comes with a small tripod socket at its base.
The Every Ready Leather Case features a knurled thumb screw to lock the Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera to the base.
The leather cover hinges open to permit operation of the camera.
The Every Ready Leather Case includes a neck strap to permit the camera and case to be worn around the neck.
The MINOX CCC Flash fits the MINOX Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera and is functionally very good with a large reflector and fast recycling time to permit using the Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera in low-light conditions.
The MINOX Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera comes with a small tripod socket at its base and two gold-plated contacts for controlling the flash unit.
The CCC Flash features a knurled thumb screw to lock the Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera to the base, securing the Leica M3 against loss and ensuring proper contact of the CCC Flash's contacts to the camera.
In keeping with MINOX tradition mating huge flash units to tiny cameras, the CCC Flash belittles the tiny Leica M3 Digital Classic Camera.
Whether in film or digital format, MINOX cameras pack tremendous performance into small packages. And they have "soul", something lacking in the vast majority of today's cameras.
And of course they are remarkably small.
