Odyssey Batteries use Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Technology to offer the characteristics of two disparate battery designs. The Odyssey can deep cycle without damage, as well as provide enormous cranking power for starting and winching. Should an Odyssey Battery become deeply discharged, simply recharge it following the instructions in the owner's manual and it will be returned to full power. Once fully charged, an Odyssey Battery may be stored for up to two years.
Odyssey Batteries are completely sealed and do not leak. There is no fear of acid spillage, as Odyssey Batteries recycle the internal gas during operation and charging. With an Odyssey, you will not see your terminals or battery tray corrode as you would with standard batteries. Odyssey Batteries may be installed in any orientation except inverted without leakage or sacrificing performance attributes. The US Department of Transportation has certified Odyssey Batteries as a nonspillable item, so it may be shipped worry-free by air or overnight service if required.
The PC2150 is a very powerful battery. The PC2150 features 1090 cold cranking amps and 200 minutes of reserve. Compare the PC2150 to other Group 31 batteries and you will see the tremendous difference in performance.
The PC2150 comes standard with two 3/8" threaded studs on top of the battery.
The 3/8" studs are designed for easier connection of power cables that terminate to a ring terminal. Wing nuts are provided with the PC2150.
SAE adapters are provided with each PC2150 we sell. When the PC2150 is to be used with SAE pattern battery connectors, it is a simple matter to thread on the SAE adapters.
With both SAE adapters fitted, the PC2150 basically becomes an SAE-pattern battery.
Factory battery terminals bolt right up to the SAE adapters.
The PC2150 is a Group 31 battery and thus almost identical in dimensions to the Optima Batteries D31M Blue Top Battery.
The PC2150 just barely fits into the Disco2's battery box with almost zero wasted space. The Disco2's factory positive terminal fits just fine without extension. However, the Disco2's factory ground cable must be extended where it bolts to the chassis ground. Fitting an extension to the chassis ground is a very simple matter.
The PC2150 drops right into the Defender's battery tray.
All Odyssey Batteries come with a three-year, free-replacement warranty, and six- to 10-year service life. The PC2150 comes with a punched decal so that the user may know when he should consider replacement. When your PC2150 becomes very old, replace it with a fresh unit. Unlike a conventional battery, the Odyssey Battery will give warning signs that it is nearing the end of its service life. There is no sudden and catastrophic loss of power or ability to charge with an Odyssey Battery.
The Group 34 sized Odyssey is the PC1500.
The PC1500 is almost identical in size to the Group 34 sized Optima 750U Yellow Top Battery and the 800U Red Top Battery shown above.
Unlike the 750U Yellow Top and 800U Red Top battery from Optima, the PC1500 operates as both a deep cycle and a starting battery, all in one. The PC1500's 825 cold cranking amps are greater than the 800U Red Top's 800 cold cranking amps. And unlike the 800U Red Top, the PC1500 may be deeply discharged multiple times without damage to the battery. The PC1500's 120 minutes of reserve capacity matches that of the 750U Yellow Top. A PC1500 has the best characteristics of the two Optima batteries in a single battery.
Like the Optima 750U Yellow Top and 800U Red Top, the PC1500 features both top and side terminals. The top terminals are the standard SAE posts. The side terminals feature a female 3/8" thread. If the side are to be used, then the user may secure a ring terminal to the side terminals using 3/8" bolts.
Alternatively, auxiliary side terminals may be fitted if the user wants SAE side terminals.
Covers are provided for the side posts if they are not going to be used.
Like the PC2150, the PC1500 comes with a punched decal so that the user may know when he should consider replacement.
For powering your high-amperage equipment, we recommend the JL Audio Power Wire. The JL Audio Power Wire is constructed of highly flexible, 99.999% pure oxygen-free, fine-strand copper to true AWG specifications. Don't confuse the JL Audio Power Wire with inferior wire. The Power Wire's compacted strand orientation and the very high strand count provide excellent conductivity while maintaining outstanding flexibility to facilitate routing. Only top-quality power cable like the JL Audio Power Wire features such high-quality copper wires.
Note how much more flexible the JL Audio Power Wire is, even though the JL Audio Power Wire shown is 1/0 AWG and the standard cable is 2 AWG. The 2 AWG JL Audio Power Wire is even more flexible than the 1/0 AWG Power Wire. When routing your thick power cables, the flexibility of the JL Audio Power Wire really comes into play. You can route this JL Audio Power Wire around and through places where inferior wire will not work.
Most don't realize that the ground connection is every bit as critical as the positive connection. A poor ground degrades system performance and will cause a multitude of other problems. The JL Audio Bolt-On Master Ground Lug for 8 AWG, 4 AWG, 2 AWG, and JL Audio Ring Terminals will ensure proper grounding that lasts under the most demanding conditions.
