The Socket Holders are flexible socket rails that are optimized for field transportation of sockets.
The soft urethane rail is rustproof and makes no noise inside your field tool set.
When set on a flat surface, the Socket Holders will lie flat.
The urethane material is flexible and will conform to different shapes.
The Socket Holders will bend to accommodate tight spaces inside your field tool set.
Each rail features 14 socket pegs that securely hold the sockets in place. The Socket Holders are sized according to the sockets they will hold. The 1/4" drive Socket Holders are 11.5 long; the 3/8" drive Socket Holders are 14.6" long; and the 1/2" drive Socket holders are 17.8" long. Each rail features socket peg spacing that is appropriate for most typical sockets for a given drive size.
The socket pegs are spaced apart sufficiently that impact sockets will still clear one another on the Socket Holder.
Each rail features 14 socket pegs that securely hold your sockets in place; your sockets will not end up loose at the bottom of your tool bag.
Even 1/2" drive deep impact sockets will not come loose from the Socket Holders. Shake a loaded Socket Holder and still the sockets will not come loose.
The end of the rail features a hole for hanging from a peg, or simply drape the entire rail over something in your work area. The weight of the sockets will not stretch or otherwise damage the Socket Holders.
The Socket Holders are available in 1/4" drive, red or black,
3/8" drive, red or black,
and 1/2" drive, red or black. The color options are to designate inch or metric patterns for your sockets and to facilitate organization. Choose whatever color that makes more sense to you.
The Power Cable Clamps facilitate routing of power cables from 3/8" to 1/2" in diameter, making for a cleaner installation and preventing inadvertent grounding of power wires on your vehicle. Grounding power cables on your vehicle is not good.
Just snap the power cables into the clamps and secure the clamp with the fastener of your choice. For scale, the power cables shown are 2 AWG, which are quite large. Yet there is still plenty of clamping force on these relatively large power cables.
The Power Cable Clamps are are constructed of UV-resistant acetal and have a hole in the center for mounting. Temperature range is -40° to +212° F. The Power Cable Clamps are sold in pairs and mounting hardware is not included.
The same features that make the Off Road Trail Tools Socket Holders so suitable for field use (tight retention of the sockets) make them unsuitable for tool box use. On a socket rail that holds the sockets so tightly, it will quickly become annoying to remove individual sockets from the rail because the user must hold down the other sockets when pulling a single socket from the rail.
For the tool box, we prefer to use the Ernst Manufacturing Socket Organizers. Like the Off Road Trail Tools Socket Holders, the Ernst Socket Organizers are available in different colors to color-code your sockets and make accessing them easier. They also feature other aspects that make them ideal for tool box use.
The Ernst Socket Organizers feature a Twist Lock Socket Clip that holds the sockets loosely or locked, so that the user may grab an individual socket and pull it from the rail without having to hold down the rail with his other hand or with the heel of the same hand. This is very quick and convenient access to sockets. Just reach down for the socket you want and pull it from the rail.
The Ernst Socket Organizers are also customizable. Twist Lock Socket Clips of different drive sizes may be mounted to a single socket rail if you desire.
If you want to facilitate access, you can spread out the sockets.
Conversely, you may scrunch as many sockets as possible on a single rail to minimize wasted space inside your tool box. Unused socket pegs may be removed completely and the remaining pegs may be tagged with the included identification decals. Such a system would give the user patent notice that a particular tool is missing. Such systems are employed in the aviation industry, where a missing tool results in a grounded aircraft until the missing tool is found in order to prevent foreign object damage to the aircraft. The Ernst Manufacturing System is an ideal way to organize your tool box or your field set.
We also sell the Bucket Boss line of tool organizers, which are eminently suited for field transportation of tools. These "soft" organizers may be compressed to the smallest possible size, which minimizes wasted space and makes your field tool set as compact as possible.
The Bucket Boss Tool Roll is identical in concept to that of the Off Road Trail Tools Large Tool Roll. The primary differences are the color and the manner of cinching of the straps surrounding the rolls. If you require more than one tool roll for your field tool set (most people do), you may consider buying different-colored different tool rolls so that you will be able to differentiate the multiple tool rolls (and their contents) at a quick glance.
The Bucket Boss Wrench Roll will efficiently hold tools (like wrenches and ratchets) that the Off Road Trail Tools Large Tool Roll really cannot.
The Bucket Boss Pro GateMouth Utility Bags are a great way to transport your tool rolls and wrench rolls, as well as your recovery gear. The GateMouth bags will hold a great deal of gear, but you can also scrunch them down to minimize wasted space inside your vehicle.
If you prefer the tool box approach to tool organization and want a field-transportable tool box, there is the Pelican Products 0450 Mobile Tool Chest. Pelican Products designed the 0450 Mobile Tool Chest for the U.S. Army's requirement for a portable tool container. The Army conducted numerous tests, including water submersion, extreme temperatures, and fully loaded drop tests. The 0450 passed all of the Army's tests. The 0450 is designed to hold a lot of tools and is built accordingly. The sides of the 0450 are buttressed and the side handles are quite large to withstand lifting the 0450 when packed with tools. The 0450 features 2" wide polyurethane wheels and a retracting handle for rolling the 0450 to your work area. The latches feature steel butterfly compression reinforcements to withstand drop testing when loaded with tools. The 0450 may be configured with eight shallow drawers, six shallow drawers and one deep drawer, four shallow drawers and two deep drawers, two shallow drawers and three deep drawers, or four deep drawers. This is a very large and heavy tool box for field use, but if you just have to have a tool box for your field tool set, the 0450 is excellent.
