The Power Tank consists of an aluminum cylinder of pressurized CO2 that is stored in a liquid state but released as a vapor through a special SuperFlow regulator.
Unlike an air compressor, Power Tank is hand portable so you can take it to a friend whose broken vehicle is difficult to get to on the trail. The Power Tank can inflate tires, power pneumatic tools, etc. on the trail, the side of the road, or even in the garage. The Power Tank is lightweight, portable, and reliable. No other onboard air system can do all of this. The high amount of airflow that can be generated by the Power Tank is much greater than that achieved by vehicle-mounted air compressors.
The Power Tank is by far the fastest way to air up tires after trail rides.
CO2 gives you three times the energy of Nitrogen in a given tank size. Having one tank of CO2 is like carrying three equivalent-sized tanks of nitrogen.
Advanced Air Systems specially designed the SuperFlow regulator for use on the Power Tank.
Standard regulators used with CO2 will freeze clog and oftentimes destroy their internal parts even at moderate flow rates. Standard regulators are not designed for high-flow applications and freeze solid much more easily than the SuperFlow Regulator. The SuperFlow Regulator does not freeze even after prolonged use. Accordingly, air up times are substantially longer with generic CO2 tanks than with Power Tank.
The SuperFlow Regulator features two dial gauges that are protected by the Power Handle.
The upper gauge tells the tank pressure.
The lower gauge tells the output pressure of the regulator. The Power Tank's SuperFlow Regulator is adjustable from 0 to 250 psi by turning the knob. With the output pressure set to maximum, approximate inflation times with the Power Tank are as follows:

One reason the Power Tank shines over its copycats is the Power Tank's flexibility. The Power Tank's SuperFlow Regulator is both a high-flow and high-pressure system. All of the Power Tank's copycats are either high-flow or high-pressure, but not both. Good quality air tools require high flow but not high pressure. The Power Tank can accommodate these quality air tools.
The Power Tank is also especially suited to air tools because it is adjustable. Many copycat systems use a fixed-output regulator that is either too high or too low for the different applications for which the tank could be used.
The Power Tank's air hose is suited for air tool use on the vehicle. The Power Hose is long enough to reach the vehicle's extremities, even when the Power Tank is mounted inside the vehicle's cargo area. If the user needs to work on another vehicle that is out of reach, it is a simple matter to detach the Power Tank from its bracket and carry the system to another location.
Even long-wheelbase vehicles have no problem with the reach of the Power Hose. This photo shows a Range Rover Classic LWB with the tank mounted to driver-side rear corner. The owner is filling is passenger front tire, yet there is plenty of stretch left in the Power Hose.
Your Power Tank must be secured during transport. Several different mounting options are available.
The Aluminum Billet Brackets are of the highest quality and are the nicest of the various brackets available for your Power Tank.
Machined from solid 6061 aluminum and anodized black, the Aluminum Billet Brackets will hold your Power Tank System securely and in style. Cork pads prevent scratches to your Power Tank's cylinder.
The Aluminum Billet Brackets feature two heavy-duty rubber straps for quick and convenient removal of your Power Tank.
The rubber straps lock into the bracket and are adjustable for tightness.
The bottom of the Aluminum Billet Bracket is not padded and is sized for the added diameter of the Tank Boot.
Accordingly, the cylinder must be fitted with a Tank Boot if you want to use the Aluminum Billet Bracket.
The Aluminum Billet Brackets feature seven different mounting holes to suit different mounting applications.
The Aluminum Billet Bracket is designed to be mounted to a vertical surface. Be sure that whatever you bolt your bracket to can support the weight of a full Power Tank. The Aluminum Billet Bracket shown above is not secured only to the interior trim panel.
You may locate the Aluminum Billet Bracket's height so that the bottom of the Power Tank is sitting on the floor.
Alternatively, you may locate the Aluminum Billet Bracket so that the bottom of your Power Tank sits slightly above your vehicle's cargo floor.
The Black Power Bracket COMP replaces both the Power Bracket and Super Bracket mounting systems and integrates all of the mounting options of both of those brackets.
The Black Power Bracket COMP is a hybrid design based upon the older Super Bracket on the left and the Power Bracket on the right. The Black Power Bracket COMP fits both the 10 lb. And 15 lb. Tanks, may be used or without the Tank Boot fitted on your tank, may be mounted vertically or horizontally, and thus represents a truly universal mounting system for your Power Tank.
Constructed largely of aluminum and fitted with rubber contact points, the Black Power Bracket COMP will hold your 10 lb. Or 15 lb. Power Tank securely through even the roughest trail conditions.
The Black Power Bracket COMP features two lockable, quick-release steel buckles for convenient removal of your Power Tank.
The steel strapping is lined with cork to prevent abrasion to your Power Tank.
The Advanced Air Systems Regulator Bag is a custom-fit, black nylon bag that fits tightly over your Handle and provides a clean and dry environment for your SuperFlow HPX Regulator.
The Regulator Bag features a cinch cord with cord lock. We recommend the Regulator Bag for those who mount their Power Tanks externally.
An indispensable air tool for the Power Tank is the Heavy-Duty Inflator, also from Advanced Air Systems. On our personal Power Tanks, we have dispensed with the standard air chuck for our normal use and replaced it with the Heavy-Duty Inflator.
The Heavy-Duty Inflator features a large dial gauge that reads pressures from 0-60 psi. The dial is very legible and permits one to see pressure readings at a glance. The dial gauge is liquid-filled for durability and higher accuracy, and may be calibrated to be as accurate as possible at your particular desired pressures.
The Heavy-Duty Inflator's dial gauge is much more legible in low-light conditions than stick gauges.
The dial's body is covered with black rubber to protect the dial from knocks and scrapes.
The Heavy-Duty Inflator's air chuck clips onto the valve stem. There is no need to hold the chuck against the tip of the tire's valve stem. Simply clip the chuck onto the valve stem and depress the thumb lever to inflate.
The latest version of the Heavy-Duty Inflator features a swivel at the end of the air hose that permits the clip-on air chuck to swing freely. This prevents twisting and kinking of the air hose.
A bleed valve on the side of the Heavy-Duty Inflator's body permits the user to deflate without having to detach the air hose. If you're inflating and inadvertently go over your desired pressure, simply bleed the excess air using the bleed valve.
One can also use the Heavy-Duty Inflator to air down tires. We much prefer using the Staun Tire Deflators to air down our tires, but there are times when one wants merely to fine tune air pressures or go lower than the level to which one's Stauns are preset. For such uses, the Heavy-Duty Inflator is ideal. The Heavy-Duty Inflator is a very handy air tool that we highly recommend for all Power Tank users.
The Heavy-Duty Inflator now includes an Industrial Interchange air fitting as standard.
This is yet another reason to get the Coilhose Pneumatics Six-Ball Coupler for your Power Hose. One of the advantages of the remarkable power of the Power Tank is its ability to seat tire beads quickly and easily without the need to remove the tire or hassle with a tire tourniquet. Simply lift the corner of your vehicle with the unbeaded tire. Get the tire straight and clean on the rim. Remove the core of the wheel's valve stem. Set the outlet pressure of the SuperFlow regulator to maximum.
While holding the tire straight on the rim push the output end of the Six-Ball Coupler straight over the valve stem and give the tire a quick blast of air. The sudden rush of air into the tire will push the sides of the tire out and onto the sides of the rim. Hold it there until the tire "pops" over the rim bead. Remove the coupler from the valve stem and replace the valve core. Adjust the tire's pressure to the desired level, lower the jack, and you're on your way.
Most of the Power Tank's use will be with the Heavy-Duty Inflator. There are, however, several other air tools that we regularly use with our Power Tanks. The ability to run air tools efficiently and properly is part of what separates the Power Tank from most air compressors.
Having the capability to power air tools on your vehicle is more necessary than most people believe. No matter how careful you are, you will eventually break something on the trail. When you do break something, having air tools available will greatly facilitate repairs.
The impact wrench is probably the handiest air tool in the field tool set. With the impact wrench, one can loosen frozen fasteners and greatly speed up wheel changes.
Another very handy air tool is a blow gun. With a blow gun, one can blow dry a wet electrical connector, blow out clogged air filters or breathing tubes, etc. The uses are almost unlimited.
A very common use for the blow gun on the trail is to clean out dirty air filters.
Just remove the air filter and clean it out with air pressure. You are not supposed to clean out dirty air filters and are supposed to replace them instead, but unless you fancy carrying several replacement air filters on a long trip, use the blowgun technique. On very dirty trails it is almost a daily routine to clean out the air filter.
While we do not use the air chucks on a regular basis, we have fitted our air chucks with plugs and hold them in our field tool sets just in case our Heavy-Duty Inflators malfunction, however unlikely that may be. The air chuck and plug take so little space that they are not burdensome to store or carry, and having a backup is always a good thing. The air chuck is also useful for inflating Old Man Emu LTR Shocks.
With the plug fitted, the air chuck attaches and detaches just as easily as the other air tools.
Whether you use your Power Tank to power your Heavy-Duty Inflator, air chuck, blow gun, air ratchet, impact wrench, or all of the foregoing and more, fitting the right plugs and couplers to your Power Tank and air tools will permit you to swap tools easily for the job at hand.
There are several different types of plugs in common use. We prefer to use the Industrial Interchange (Type 15) pattern, pictured above, because that is the most common pattern. Our favorite Industrial Interchange plug is the Amflo Industrial Interchange Plug, an all-brass design.
Our favorite coupler is the Coilhose Pneumatics Six-Ball Coupler. This Coupler is compatible with all Industrial Interchange (Type 15) plugs from all manufacturers, and features six stainless steel locking balls to provide a more balanced and secure connection to the corresponding plug and extends the life of the plug even when used with percussion air tools and under high-vibration conditions.
The Durathane Ballistic Coil Hose is also sold separately for those users want the advantages of this hose, but who employ other onboard air systems.
The Durathane Ballistic Coil Hose is a fine hose for almost any onboard air system.
The Mesh Hose Bag protects the Durathane Ballistic Coil Hose from abrasion and puncture damage. The Mesh Hose Bag is large enough to hold both the Durathane Ballistic Coil Hose and Heavy-Duty Inflator with room to spare for pneumatic tools like an air gun and other air fittings. Store your hose in the Mesh Hose Bag whenever you're not using it. The last thing you want is a hole in your air hose.
We highly recommend you fit a Tank Boot to your Power Cylinder. The people at the welding and industrial gas shops are accustomed to dealing with old and mangled tanks and may treat your beautiful Power Cylinder poorly.
Fitting a Tank Boot will prevent the bottom of your Power Cylinder from getting dented, chipped, or scratched.
The Tank Boot also features an octagonal collar that will prevent your Power Cylinder from rolling in case it falls on its side.
The Power Handle is the best way to protect the brass valve assembly on spare Power Cylinders and provides an easy way to handle spare Power Cylinders.
The Power Handle is made of solid 6061-T6 aluminum rod welded to a CNC machined billet collar clamp and is powdercoated with a gloss black finish.
Two 3/8" stainless steel bolts provide the clamping power to attach the Power Handle to your Power Cylinders. Designed to withstand a four foot drop.
Beware of imitations that claim to be "the same as Power Tank's"; they are merely weak copies.
Although you can find CO2 tanks around you will be hard pressed to find or make a CO2 regulator that does what the SuperFlow Regulator does. This is because other CO2 regulators that one finds at welding or restaurant supply stores are not designed to provide both high pressure as well as a high flow. Rather, the commonly available regulators are designed to provide a shielding gas in welding or push beer and soda from a tap. Both are low-flow applications. At most such regulators are used to operate pneumatic switches and valves, which are high-pressure but low-flow applications. The high-flow capability is the key to the Power Tank's SuperFlow Regulator. Unlike commonly available regulators, the SuperFlow regulator is designed to provide a high flow rate, which is what enables the Power Tank to inflate tires at such a high rate of speed and run air tools at their recommended pressures.
If you already own a CO2 tank and you don't want to dispose of it, the SuperFlow HPX Regulator Kit gives you the onboard air capabilities of the Power Tank at a more affordable price. The SuperFlow HPX Regulator Kit features the newest, patented Power Tank SuperFlow HPX Regulator, which features heat fins machined into the body for improved performance in colder temperatures and an aluminum set screw collar to ensure a tight seal even in high-vibration applications. Each SuperFlow HPX Regulator pumps out 31 cfm of flow rate. Despite this unprecedented flow rate in a CO2 regulator, Advanced Air Systems guarantees that the SuperFlow HPX Regulator will never "freeze clog" as all other regulators will and backs it with a limited lifetime warranty.
If you already have a CO2 tank or would rather swap tanks at your local CO2 shop, you can purchase Power Tank's SuperFlow HPX Regulator Kit. The SuperFlow HPX Regulator Kit includes a SuperFlow HPX Regulator, Power Handle, and the Power Hose. Just attach these items to your CO2 tank and you will have the power and utility of a Power Tank at a more affordable price.
The Advanced Air Systems 2.5 lb. Power Tank is suitable for air applications that favor small size rather than air volume. For example, you may want to keep a Power Tank in your passenger car. Or, you may want smaller Power Tank for operating a pneumatic nail gun around your home. Or, you may want a compressed air source for inflating motorcycle or bicycle tires in your garage. Or you may use your Power Tank exclusively for ARB Air Lockers. Whenever you need air but your storage space is tight, the 2.5 lb. Power Tank becomes suitable. The 2.5 lb. Package A comes complete with an Aluminum Super Bracket, powdercoated bottle, regulator, 10' SuperFlex Braided High Pressure Coiled Hose, Hose Bag, and brass pneumatic fittings. Available in blue or yellow color.
The 2.5 lb. Power Tank looks so much like the standard Power Tank that it can be difficult to appreciate just how small it is. In the photo above, the 2.5 lb. Tank stands beside a bottle of Pellegrino for scale.
Here is the same bottle of Pellegrino inside the 2.5 lb. Aluminum Super Bracket.
Do not, however, be fooled by the size. The 2.5 lb. Power Tank operates exactly like its larger siblings and to the same performance levels. It's just considerably smaller in size.
The 2.5 lb. Power Tank features an adjustable regulator, just like its larger siblings.
The regulator features two dial gauges that indicate tank pressure and output pressure, just like the larger Power Tank Systems.
The powdercoated aluminum bottle features the same level of quality construction as the larger Power Tank cylinders.
The 2.5 lb. bottle also features a main valve.
The user may have the 2.5 lb. Bottle refilled professionally or he may refill the tank himself using the Advanced Air Systems Power Filler Transfill Tool and a mother CO2 tank.
If you want to maximize the 2.5 lb. Power Tank's utility for inflating tires, we recommend the Heavy-Duty Tire Inflator. The HD Inflator works with the 2.5 lb. Power Tank, just as it would with its larger siblings.
If your work always has you close to your Power Tank you may not need or want a 25' hose. For example, you may transport your Power Tank horizontally for space considerations and dismount your Power Tank every time you inflate your tires. Or, you may use your Power Tank to power pneumatic tools around the house. The Advanced Air System 10' SuperFlex Braided High Pressure Coiled Hose is suitable for such applications, as it prevents tangling of the hose and makes it easier to use.
The 10' SuperFlex Hose features a co-extruded shell construction which captures a nylon weave between two separate layers of Durathane material. The three-layer construction gives the 10' SuperFlex Hose a remarkable 250 psi working pressure and a 1100 psi burst pressure, even when used with CO2 and its cold temperatures. Each end of the 10' SuperFlex Hose is fitted with a brass fitting with a wide inner diameter for maximum flow and heavy-duty molded coilspring strain reliefs. Color: Translucent yellow with white weave.
