Because of its capability to use both liquid and canister fuel types, the PRIMUS OmniFuel is very suitable for overlanders. Choosing a field stove has heretofore involved sacrifices because of the types of fuels involved and their relative advantages and disadvantages. For example, if one chooses liquid fuels, he misses out on the benefits of gas canisters such as greater convenience, greater simplicity, and lighter system weight. If he chooses canister fuels, then he misses out on the benefits of liquid fuel such as efficiency, versatility with various fuels, cold-weather performance, and greater capacity for long trips or numerous people. If you cannot choose between liquid fuel or gas canister, or want the ability to burn both whenever you want or the circumstances of a particular trip dictate using one fuel system over the other, then the OmniFuel is the obvious choice. And unlike many field stoves, the OmniFuel features variable flame output, and the OmniFuel may be adjusted from barely burning to Armageddon. The wire knob is very easily to manipulate for fine flame adjustments.
When fitted with a fuel bottle, the PRIMUS OmniFuel works with liquid fuels such as LP gas, gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and even aviation fuel. The PRIMUS OmniFuel also works with gas canisters like the PRIMUS PowerGas, Snow Peak GigaPower, and other gas canister systems with standard Lindal Valve threading, giving the OmniFuel unmatched flexibility and earning it a coveted Backpacker Magazine Editors' Choice Award for excellence. The OmniFuel burns it all, in all conditions.
The OmniFuel may be fed with liquid fuels through the bottle or by gas canister, whichever you prefer for a particular trip. If you want to increase the OmniFuel's capacity, it is very easy to fit larger bottles like the PRIMUS 1.5L Fuel Bottle.
The PRIMUS OmniFuel is constructed from stainless steel and brass, both materials that do not corrode readily. Thus the components are easy to clean and service.
The OmniFuel's ErgoPump is constructed from aluminum and polymer for light weight.
Keep Mother Nature at bay with the PRIMUS Windscreen & Heat Reflector. The PRIMUS Windscreen is flexible, lightweight, and very packable. The PRIMUS Windscreen's aluminum material increases heat output and reduces boil times with the with your camp stove. Simply surround the stove's burner area with the Optimus Windscreen to form a shield and increase your stove's efficiency.
If you prefer gas canisters, you can do no better than the PRIMUS PowerGas canisters.
The PRIMUS 450G PowerGas contains 450 g of PRIMUS' new gas mixture called 4 Seasons. The 450G PowerGas canister contains the equivalent of 1l of methylated spirits, which is sufficient to boil about 30l of water.
The PRIMUS 450G PowerGas canister is equipped with self-sealing safety valves and employs the standard Lindal Valve threading for easy interchangeability with most common gas canisters from other manufacturers.
The Snow Peak GigaPower system employs the standard Lindal Valve threading. If you're considering the purchase of a field stove, make sure that the threading system or systems it employs are standard. Avoid the stoves with proprietary fuel systems.
The PRIMUS 220G PowerGas contains 220 g of the same 4 Seasons gas mix.
The PRIMUS Filling Adapter is a necessity for users of butane-filled tools like lighters and cordless soldering irons.
Thread the Filling Adapter onto any fuel canister with standard Lindal Valve threading like the PRIMUS PowerGas, Brunton Bruntane, and Snow Peak GigaPower canisters and refill tools like lighters and cordless soldering irons easily. There’s no need for expensive butane cylinder fuels when you can get it straight from the butane canister.
The PRIMUS Filling Adapter is identical in concept to that of the Brunton FuelTool. Both are very handy tools to have in one's field kit.
Refilling the Brunton Helios lighter is very simple using the Filling Adapter.
This cordless butane soldering iron is just as easily filled using the Filling Adapter.
This Zippo lighter has been modified to accept a torch insert that is powered by butane.
To refill the torch insert, simply insert the Filling Adapter's needle and depress.
The Filling Adapter is very small basically takes up no space in your field tool set.
When using your PRIMUS PowerGas canister with a stove that threads directly on top of the gas canister, fit a PRIMUS Foot Rest below the canister to increase the stability of the entire assembly, especially when using large pots or cooking on uneven surfaces.
The Foot Rest attaches to the base seam of the PRIMUS 110g, 220g, and 450g PowerGas canisters.
When snapped into the Foot Rest, the PowerGas canisters are securely held and braced against tipping. Do not use the Foot Rest with Snow Peak GigaPower canisters, as the fit is not exactly correct.
The Foot Rest is very broad when hinged open and will add considerable stability to your canister-mounted stove or lantern.
For easier storage and transportation, the Foot Rest may be hinged closed.
If you use a liquid-fuel stove without an integral tank, you will need a separate bottle or bottles to carry your fuel supply. The PRIMUS Fuel Bottles are constructed of seamless extruded aluminum for light weight and lacquered inside to prevent the absorption of fuel residues and odors. The PRIMUS Fuel Bottles' connecting threads are standard and suitable for use with the PRIMUS OmniFuel, PRIMUS MultiFuel, and PRIMUS VariFuel, as well as most common pump stoves from other manufacturers that burn liquid fuels. The PRIMUS Fuel Bottles are available in 0.6L, 1.0L, and 1.5L sizes to suit different applications.
The PRIMUS Firesteel is the optimal way to start a fire or light your stove in all weather conditions. The PRIMUS Firesteel is truly waterproof and will never deplete like lighters.
To use the Firesteel, simply scrape the magnesium bar with the provided blade and a shower of sparks will emit. The sparks emitted are about 3000 degrees Centigrade.
For eating in the field, our favorite cutlery is from Snow Peak. Pictured left to right are the Snow Peak Titanium Spork, Snow Peak Carry-On Chopsticks, and the Snow Peak Three-Piece Silverware Set. Titanium is substantially lighter than stainless steel. More important than weight is titanium's eminent suitability for utensil construction. Titanium is the perfect material for field cutlery as it has no metallic smell or taste (unlike aluminum or stainless steel), will not corrode or stain when left wet or exposed to acidic foods (unlike aluminum and stainless steel), and is very strong and will not melt (unlike plastic). Titanium is also easily serviced in the field, as a simple rinse with water and a wipe-down with a rag are all that is necessary.
The Engel Freezer Fridge is an indispensable unit for civilized car camping.
With the Engel, there is no melting ice. Sandwich ingredients stay cold and fresh and dry. Meats and cheeses do not go bad. Bread does not get soggy.
Vegetables stay nice and fresh. When cut, the cuts are clean and not smeared because the vegetables remain so crispy fresh within the Engel.
These ingredients just emerged from an Engel 45. They are perfectly chilled, fresh, and dry. That's the Engel difference.
If you are looking for an excellent multitool, we highly recommend the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit. The SwissTools are to multitools what Snow Peak utensils are to field cutlery. Both represent the best of their type and are without peer.
