The Rock Ware Defender 90 Frame Sliders both protect the Defender 90's frame an prevent the frame ears from catching on ledges and obstacles. The Frame Sliders are constructed from 3/16" steel and will handle substantial abuse without deformation. The design allows the slider to extend past the rear trailing arm ears to provide a smooth transition at this pesky hang up point. The Defender 90 Frame Sliders mount to the Defender 90 using existing, factory bolts. No drilling or other vehicle butchery is required for a proper installation. Fit Defender 90 only, and do not fit Defender 110, Range Rover Classic, or Disco1.

Factory Drag Link

The Defender's factory drag link is a thin piece of steel pipe.

Bent Factory Drag Link

The factory drag link is easily bent on the trails, rendering the vehicle unsteerable. Do not underestimate the importance of steering. A vehicle without steering is worse than a vehicle without drive, as a vehicle without drive can still be towed. A vehicle with only partial drive can still be limped along. A vehicle without steering is shut down. It can't be towed. It can't be recovered. It's finished.

Repaired Factory Drag Link

When a drag link is bent severely, it must be straightened and then reinforced or the vehicle will not be able to steer correctly.

Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link

Replace your Defender's weak and vulnerable factory drag with the Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link, which is much stronger than the factory drag link. The Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link will fit Defenders only. The Defender Drag Link may be fitted to Disco1s and Range Rover Classics, but only if the pitman arm is replaced with a Defender type and a Defender Cross Rod End is fitted. The Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link is a drop-in installation in all Defenders, and no vehicle modification is required for a proper installation.

Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link

This Disco1 has been fitted with the Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link and its steering damper relocated to the Defender position in front of the axle. The steering damper is now much higher off the ground than it was in its factory position and much less likely to suffer trail damage. Note that this Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Drag Link is bent slightly from trail damage on the Rubicon. However, it is only bowed slightly and the vehicle still has steering. Contrast this with the photos of severely bent factory drag links, which must be repaired to regain steering.

Bent Factory Tie Rod

The factory tie rod is just as weak as the factory drag link. To make matters worse, the tie rod sits much lower on the vehicle than the drag link does is much much susceptible to damage. With the tie rod in this shape, the front wheels will point outward and the vehicle will not be steerable. Fortunately, this owner had a spare tie rod on hand. Do you?

Repaired Factory Tie Rod

This Disco1's factory tie rod was severely bent on the trail and had to be straightened and reinforced with some spare halfshafts to restore steering.

Repaired Factory Tie Rod

This Disco2's factory tie rod was also severely bent and had to be straightened and reinforced with the handle from a Hi-Lift Jack to restore steering. The factory tie rods are weak and are not up to hard use on the trail. Photo by David Shechter.

Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod

Replace your Defender's weak and vulnerable factory tie rod with the Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod, which is both stronger than the factory tie rod and shaped to provide maximum clearance below the front axle.

Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod

Here is the Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod mounted on John's Defender. The vulnerable low section of the tie rod is offset upwards so that it will not get hit by obstacles on the trail. Note that the bottom of the axle casing and the end of the tie rod are severely scratched from the Dusy-Ershim, but that the raised portion of the tie rod is clean. This particular tie rod is older than EE, and has served John very well for many years over many difficult trails.

Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod

The Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod does not interfere with normal steering in any way. Even at full right lock, the offset portion of the Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod does not contact the left radius arm. Conversely, the offset portion of the Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod does not contact the third member at full left lock.

Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod

The Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod is a drop-in installation in all Defenders, and no vehicle modification is required for a proper installation. The Rock Ware Defender Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod will fit Disco1s and Range Rover Classics, but only if the ball joints are changed and the factory steering damper is relocated to the Defender location in front of the axle.

Rock Ware/Land Rover Genuine Parts Defender Complete Tie Rod Kit

Even if you have a Defender, we recommend you purchase the EW40 Complete Tie Rod Kit and keep your old ball joints, clamps, and mounting fasteners as trail spares. These pieces are very small and don't take up much room at all in your vehicle spares kit.

Rock Ware/Land Rover Genuine Parts Disco2 Complete Tie Rod Kit

For the Disco2, we sell the Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod only in kit form, the Disco2 Complete Tie Rod Kit.

Rock Ware/Land Rover Genuine Parts Disco2 Complete Tie Rod Kit

This is because the ball joints, clamps, and mounting fasteners from the Disco2 are not compatible with the Rock Ware Disco2 Heavy-Duty Offset Tie Rod and must be replaced with Defender components to complete the conversion. To prevent confusion, we sell only the Disco2 Complete Tie Rod Kit.

Rock Ware Front Pinion Guard

Here is the Rock Ware Front Pinion Guard mounted on John's Defender. Note how the front driveshaft's yokes and universal joints are protected from damage. The tie rod is also protected, as the tie rod can bend backward only so much if it should ever snag on a rock. (John's Front Pinion Guard looks a little strange because he mounted a Disco1's harmonic damper onto the Front Pinion Guard to attenuate driveline vibrations.)

Protect your rear driveshaft's yokes from damage with the Rock Ware Rear Pinion Guard. The Rock Ware Rear Pinion Guard is a drop-in installation on the rear third members on Defender 90s, Disco1s, and Range Rover Classics. Does not fit Defender 110, Disco2, or P38 Range Rover. Rock Ware Defender 90 Frame Sliders

The Frame Sliders are constructed from 3/16" steel and will handle substantial abuse without deformation. Note how the frame rails are encapsulated by the Frame Sliders on both the outside and inside of the main rails, and how the drainage holes in the Frame Sliders match the location of the frame's drain holes as well as the shape of the frame ear.
