Expeditionware Backing Plate For Shackle Mounting Bracket (EW10) $15 Securely anchor your Shackle Mounting Bracket with the Expeditionware Backing Plate. The Backing Plate is 1/4" thick and matches the Shackle Mounting Bracket in hole pattern and flange dimensions. The Shackle Mounting Brackets are suitable in thickness and construction for use as heavy-duty recovery points on your vehicle. The mounting ring for the 3/4" bow shackles is never less than 5/8" thick solid steel and the mounting flange for the bracket is 7/16" thick.
The Shackle Mounting Brackets are also chrome plated for corrosion resistance. The bolt pattern on the SMB's is 3" x 2", measuring center to center. That is, the bolt holes are 3" apart on center and 2" tall on center.
The eyelet in the Shackle Mounting Brackets is suitably sized to accept the standard-sized ARB 3/4" Bow Shackle.
The ARB 3/4" Bow Shackle has a working load limit of 4.75 tons and a breaking load limit several times that. This is a very nice accessory for your Shackle Mounting Bracket. In fact, the Shackle Mounting Bracket requires a 3/4" Bow Shackle for it to be used as a recovery point.
The Shackle Mounting Bracket mounts with 1/2" high-grade fasteners and a suitable backing plate. We do not sell the fasteners, as different mounting locations will require different length bolts. We do, however, offer the Expeditionware Backing Plate, which is designed and manufactured specifically for use with the Shackle Mounting Bracket.
The four holes in the Backing Plate are very slightly larger than the holes in the Shackle Mounting Bracket.
While a larger backing plate would be preferable, we designed the Backing Plate to match the dimensions of the Shackle Mounting Bracket so that the Backing Plate would fit all installations. If the Shackle Mounting Bracket will fit, then so too will the Backing Plate.
The Shackle Mounting brackets are to be fitted only to bumpers strong enough to accommodate the pulling forces of a recovery, such as the heavy-duty ARB Winch Bars or TJM Bull Bars. The factory bumpers are wholly inadequate for this purpose. We recommend that one Shackle Mounting Bracket be fitted to each side of your heavy-duty bumper for best results. A Shackle Mounting Bracket on each side of the bumper will accommodate more recovery scenarios than a single front recovery point.
Fitting two Shackle Mounting Brackets will also enable you to use suitable Recovery Straps as a bridle when appropriate.
