About 10 years ago, Swiss Spice inventor and designer Beat Wietlisbach was traveling in New Zealand, and he kept his salt in a film canister. The lid popped off the film canister and the salt ran all over his luggage. This experience inspired Wietlisbach to develop a safe and hygienic container for carrying spices. Wietlisbach made his first prototype out of aluminum. This prototype was extremely strong but the weight was a problem. Wietlisbach then examined the idea of using advanced plastics. Finding the correct advanced plastic (no acrylic) was to be a difficult problem to solve. But working together with a Swiss expert from the industrially driven Institution for Technology and Research, Wietlisbach found the ideal material. Thanks to a lot of Swiss Alpine members, rigorous testing of Swiss Spice ensued. After this thorough testing, Wietlisbach made the decision to market Swiss Spice to the public.
Since Swiss Spice had also been on the Matterhorn countless times, the first packaging was created with a picture of this grand and famous Swiss mountain. Today, Swiss Spice has reached even some of the furthest outposts of our planet. Martin Fickweiler took a Swiss Spice onto the Great Wall of China. Wilco de Rooij was on the Friesche Vlag Breaker Everest Expedition with a Swiss Spice in 2004. Marc Cornelissen took a Swiss Spice to a Polartrack and Hans Vermeulen on the Eneco Everest Expedition. Swiss Spice functioned perfectly on its many journeys to these remote areas of the world. In March of 2007, Swiss Spice was recognized for its superior design by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, a part of the Smithsonian Institute.
Swiss Spice has a very appealing and unique design. Because Swiss Spice is transparent, you can always see exactly how much spices you have left. Inside, it is made of highly resilient, advanced materials. Swiss Spice is practically indestructible. Swiss Spice is great for the home but even more suitable for anyone on the go as it weighs less than 2 ounces when empty, and can also be used for storing other items which must be kept dry, such as tablets, soap, pills, or anything else you need protected while you travel.
Swiss spice is 100% manufactured in Switzerland using the highest quality materials, designed with Swiss ingenuity, and manufactured using high-quality techniques. The spring opening system is made of stainless steel and the seams of Swiss Spice are ultrasonically welded for a perfect seal. Beautiful in form and function, Swiss Spice is designed for a lifetime of use.
These photos give you an idea of just how small and handy Swiss Spice is. And yet there is plenty of spice capacity for your travel use. Note that the edges of the two lids do not have the same bevel angle. There are two different shaped lids to help distinguish between salt and pepper, even in the dark. The edges of the lids sit just barely proud of the vertical walls of Swiss Spice to make opening the lids easier, but not so proud that the lids will open inadvertently. Every aspect of Swiss Spice is well thought out.
Swiss Spice features a stainless steel spring system that snaps the caps open and closed tightly. The lids are held to the body with solid stainless steel pins. When closed, the lids are spring-loaded against the body and the gasket tightly seals the openings. The seal is both airtight and watertight, keeping the contents within dry and fresh. The lids will not open inadvertently inside your pocket, pack, or Pelican Protector Case.
Swiss Spice is the only shaker which is humid-proof. The gasket material that keeps your spices clean and dry is the same as that used in medical technology. Contents stored within Swiss Spice will always stay clean and dry (clump-free), no matter what the environmental conditions may be.
Swiss Spice comes prefilled from the factory with salt and pepper. If you are a salt or pepper snob, or if you want to fill your Swiss Spice with different spices, just dump out the factory contents and put in whatever you like.
Changing out the contents or refilling is very easy. Just unscrew the shaker heads with a slotted screwdriver.
The shaker heads will unthread and remove.
Change out the contents to whatever seasoning you desire. Swiss Spice also makes an excellent travel case for pills. If you want to use Swiss Spice as a pill holder, simply leave off the blue shaker heads and you have an airtight and watertight travel pill dispenser. Even without the blue shaker heads fitted, there is enough sealing area on the gasket to make Swiss Spice airtight and watertight.
Swiss Spice is ideal for holding your trail spices and keep them fresh and dry. Containers like plastic bags are convenient but they are prone to tearing and leaking. Swiss Spice does not leak.
If you want to take larger spices with you on the trail, you can easily with the Swiss Spice.
Each shaker head has four holes. If you like, you can drill out the holes to allow larger spices to flow through. Or, you can leave off the shaker heads entirely. Swiss Spice will still seal, even without the shaker heads fitted.
Of course Swiss Spice won't hold this amount of spices. If you transport your spices in a Pelican Laptop Case, then Swiss Spice will be too small for you.
