Ballooning And Rovering In Kenya

July 2001

These pictures were taken in the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya. Our morning started really early - 5:45 a.m. After being Rovered out to the launch site we had an incredible balloon ride overlooking the park. As the great migration was starting we saw hundreds of Wildebeest and Zebra. Several elephants could be seen foraging. A lion walked along the road with an early morning kill (couldn't get the shot). Our captain took us from dizzying heights to skimming the Serengeti just 15 ft above the ground and all ranges in between. The landing was quite rough as we were dragged for a good 50 yards or so bouncing along the way. We were one of the fortunate groups as we did not land on a termite mound - which are a good five feet tall. Once on the ground the Rovers picked us up and whisked us away to a champagne breakfast. The Rovers can go anywhere and truly need to as one can never be quite sure where the balloons will end up.

Trip of a lifetime!!!!!!
